Judge sides with homeless veteransA federal judge on Friday refused a government request to dismiss a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union against the Veteran’s Administration, on behalf of chronically homeless veterans. The suit accuses the VA of failing to build permanent housing on a large property controlled by the VA in West Los Angeles. Los Angeles has the largest number of homeless veterans – about 8,000 – of any city in the country. Many require mental health care and other support services, and ACLU attorneys say those programs are basically inaccessible unless permanent housing is built nearby. The case is Gregory Valentini et al v. Eric Shinseki, et al CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta met homeless veterans in Los Angeles and explored the controversy when the lawsuit was filed last year. |

I hope the homeless veterans win.
So important to make it simple for the veterans to get their treatment in the easiest way possible. The area is high rent and high real estate so they need housing they can afford so they can get treatment and not be homeless.
ABC Evening News did a show on this problem. When a wealthy woman died, she left a large property to be used to build residences for homeless veterans. The owner wanted to help veterans, but developers see multi million dollar development and couldn't care less about the homeless veterans.
It's very easy to pay rent with money. It is very difficult to pay rent with homless vets. Quit being stupid.
When one counts up all the returning veterans with Traumatic Brain Injuries and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, it is no surprise they become homeless, end up in jail, or die from suicide or the elements. These injuries cause them to lose their executive functions that allow them to make sound decisions and maintain relationships. Their marriages break up, parents die off, and they are left defenseless. And there are no places for them to go! A real disgrace...
