More flu vaccine expected this yearThe Centers for Disease Control and Prevention anticipate more doses of the seasonal influenza vaccine will be available during this year's flu season compared to last year's. "We are anticipating 166 million or so are likely to be produced this year, compared to 157 million last year," said Dr. Carolyn Bridges, the Associate Director for Adult Immunization with the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Disease. However, recommendations for who should be vaccinated remain the same. The CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices says all Americans older than six months of age should be vaccinated against the flu every year. The vaccine is typically offered as a single dose. Only young children between the age of six months and eight years old who have never been vaccinated against the flu, or whose vaccination status is unknown, require a second dose of the vaccine four weeks later, known as a booster. This year people aged 65 and older may opt for a new, high dose form of the flu vaccine, known as Fluzone High-Dose. Although it will be available during the 2011 – 2012 influenza season, the CDC's Advisory Committee has not issued a formal recommendation that Fluzone High-Dose be used by older patients since it is relatively new and data about its efficacy is still being collected. This season's vaccine is composed of the same influenza strains as last year's vaccine, including the 2009 H1N1 strain. Bridges estimates that 41% of American adults were vaccinated last year, including 63.5% of all health care professionals and 49% of pregnant women. In a call with reporters, Bridges said making flu vaccinations convenient for health care personnel was a "key strategy" in increasing the amount of vaccine coverage of that population. She also said data from last year showed pregnant women were five times more likely to choose to be vaccinated if the vaccine was recommended by their doctor. The CDC says the influenza vaccine should be readily available around the country by September. Flu season typically lasts from October to May of the following year. I don't know about autism, etc, but I do know that some vaccines contain MSG as a preservative, which a lot of people have a pretty bad reaction to. I do suggest reading the ingredients in vaccines and making sure there's nothing in them that you can't handle, if you're worried.

There's always risk of allergic reactions, even penicillin has people allergic to it. MSG is pretty mild stuff though, and part of me even wonders if "bad reactions" are misascribed to it, always keep in mind the post hoc doesn't mean proctor hoc. The alternative to not using a preservative however is for the shot to not work at all...
I would say vaccines make existing autism symptoms worse, not cause them due to underlying cause.

If you look only at the numbers of the increase in cases of autism and the use of vaccines you may see a correlation. However, if you include that since the late 70's the methods of diagnosis have improved and what is considered "autism" has included a massively larger amount of things, you'll see that the increase in autism has nothing to do with vaccines.

Actually MMR is available separately through your local health department. Maybe your ped. doesn't carry it, but it's available. My kids are on an alternate schedule as well. She never said her kids weren't vaccinated just at different times. The government has paid out money to families of children who have been injured or killed by vaccines. So it's not crazy, when vaccines concern parents.

That's what I did with my kid. Postpone vaccine schedule by 2 years. Never saw any problems with it at all. The secret is making sure kids get enough vitamin D. Something CDC knew but won't tell us. Dr. Looker from CDC wrote about it and actually showed by accident that 97% of USA population are not getting enough vitamin D and she said that it should be the new norms rather than do something about it. Vitamin D at right dosage is proving to be very effective against cold, flu, sinus infection and other upper respiratory infection.

Vitamin D has long been recognized as essential to the skeletal system. Newer evidence suggests that it also plays a major role regulating the immune system, perhaps including immune responses to viral infection. Interventional and observational epidemiological studies provide evidence that vitamin D deficiency may confer increased risk of influenza and respiratory tract infection. Vitamin D deficiency is also prevalent among patients with HIV infection. Cell culture experiments support the thesis that vitamin D has direct anti-viral effects particularly against enveloped viruses. Though vitamin D's anti-viral mechanism has not been fully established, it may be linked to vitamin D's ability to up-regulate the anti-microbial peptides LL-37 and human beta defensin 2. Additional studies are necessary to fully elucidate the efficacy and mechanism of vitamin D as an anti-viral agent.

I have done my research and happen to be on the opposite spectrum of all you F%$#&tards. I never once said that my child was unvaccinated He on a certain schedule. Where we don't combine to may vaccinations with each. BTW I keep up with all my vaccinations and make sure my child has the ones he needs at a certain time. I am sure you are the nitwit that doesn't believe in that immunizations can affect children.. Maybe become a sped ed teacher (but you obviously dont have the patience) and understand what I see daily in my classroom. Maybe your just the person who teaches their children that it is ok to F%$k with those that are different from their children. That is called BULLIES. I make sure my child is safe in every aspect. There is no scientific evidence to support increased danger to children who get all their shots at once. I highly doubt getting 3 different vaccines at once is more dangerous then getting one. If that were the case then your child would have been injured the minute his immune system came in contact with multiple microbes. Your logic suggests a lack of understanding of the immune system and molecular biology.
Why don't you tell us all what "books" you've read and what sites you've used as a basis for your conclusions, Scartletb? I notice you haven't cited even one source for your claims. What experts claim that autism is the result of vaccination? That combining vaccines is dangerous?

I don't get it. The Center for Disease Control always recommends the vaccine for senior citizens and children. They never say anything about people who travel regularly. it seems to me that you could really slow down a lot of the flu epidemics if everyone who traveled internationally had to be vaccinated. I've been to many trade shows, conferences and business meetings, and it's really common to come home with an upper respiratory infection or other illness that you picked up in Germany from someone from Hong Kong who picked it up from someone in Brazil a week earlier. 50-100,000 people at a trade conference/show like CeBit in Germany or CES in Las Vegas can carry a lot of viruses home.

My healthy 9-year old son died two years ago from the H1N1 virus. It saddens me to see all the "it's not going to happen to me" and the "government conspiracy" posts here. I used to say it won't happen to us, we're a middle-class family with great health insurance, we're healthy!. If you're on the fence about getting a flu shot, please reconsider and get your family their shots.
His immune system had been compromised by all the vaccinations he received over the years. My 18 month old survived the H1N1 virus. That was the only time that he has been sick in 3.5 years. NO vaccinations...ever.

If you have, and you still make the decision to vaccinate your child, at least it's an informed decision. To just 'trust your doctor' without doing your homework isn't very intelligent. There are so many medical doctors in all specialties who choose NOT to immunize themselves or their children. It's not a choice that should be made lightly, or without complete information. I used to sound like most of you, angry with those who chose not to immunize. But that was before I actually did any reading or research on the subject. Ever hear of "herd immunity"? A typical vaccine protects only 80-95% of those who get it. However, if you vaccinate an entire population, the virus can't get a foothold among the small percentage who don't develop immunity, so epidemics become very difficult to sustain. Every person who deliberately chooses NOT to be vaccinated increases the percentage of susceptible people and puts those of us who got the vaccine but didn't develop immunity (or who can't get vaccinated due to legitimate health issues) at risk.
Yes, I have heard of 'herd immunity' and it's also BS. READ. You will find that in populations of 100% vaccination, there have been outbreaks of disease for which those 100% were vaccinated, such as measles or mumps. Read ANY package insert for ANY vaccine and you will find that it says that the vaccine may not be effective for all people. Simply put, they are not effective. Period. But that's not all you'll find if you stop parroting the news and doctors who profit dearly from giving jabs. You'll find out a lot more than that.

Yermama – I'm not parroting the news; I'm a molecular biologist and actually have substantial training in the biological sciences. If you read my comment again, you'll see that I wasn't claiming that vaccines are 100% effective. The principle of herd immunity is that if ALL people in a group are vaccinated with a 90% effective vaccine, the 10% who aren't immune are less likely to pass along the illness, since 90% of the people they contact ARE immune. Hence, the epidemic dies out and we're ALL pretty unlikely to become sick.
By all means, keep taking your shots. It's your choice to put whatever you choose in your body, and it's my choice to do the same. Your training and study don't really give me any confidence in your belief, since there are people who are equally and further trained than you who completely disagree with your THEORIES. I don't judge you for your belief in vaccines. You are free to believe that what you say is the truth.

I personally know someone who nearly lost her toddler son to the H1N1 nasal vaccine due to encephalitis. He had to be taught to walk, eat, and speak again.

In between, they send out spokespeople to tell everyone that it's perfectly safe to inject this toxic mercury into our bodies and the bodies of our children and infants. How stupid do they think we are? Hey, here's an idea! How about instead the CDC only order single-dose vaccines that are mercury-free, so that more people might get them, there will be less waste, and the disposal costs will be minimized.

you guys have well done on other health issues but not HIV/AIDS. Currently sub saharan African countries are in casuality fail to contain the rampant infection. Not exactly safe for people with compromised immune system. Vitamin D would have been much safer. It does the same job.

For anyone not wanting flu vaccines should make sure to get enough vitamin D. It is pretty much your own natural vaccines against cold, flu and other upper respiratory illnesses. Starting now, 1000 IU of vitamin D3 for every 25 lbs of body weight every day will greatly minimize the risk of getting upper respiratory infection, asthma & allergy attack, etc.

There are risks in every medical procedure. The risks of any of these adverse effects does not outweigh the benefits of getting vaccinated.

You are assuming facts not in evidence. Is the flu equally deadly every year? No, it is not. There are many years in which the flu is relatively mild and fewer people die anyway.
And lastly this is taken right from the Flulaval vaccine insert. Read it carefully it says "there have been no controlled trials demonstrating a decrease in influenza disease after vaccination with FLULAVAL." This means they don't even know if it works..........

That is because to do a controlled trial, there would have to be a control group that would receive only a placebo or no vaccine at all against the flu. That would be unethical, because it would expose people to a preventable disease that could kill them.
Right, how convenient of an answer....Funny though this happens all the time in surgery's. For example there are always new surgical techniques and devices and yet for a study they perform current standard procedures on one set of patients and then all the new untested techniques on another set of patients, even though this is putting the patients life in jeopardy. It's a very valid comparison. One surgical method tested and very positive outcomes, another method never tested could cause death. The people undergoing the new surgical techniques have to sign a waiver. I would say that is putting those people at great risk but they do it so they know if it really works. Say what you want but they will never be able to prove vaccines work.
