Colon cleansing: Not so healthy, analysis says

It has been touted as a natural way to improve your heath and cleanse the soul. But doctors are now finding the procedure known as colon cleansing can cause dangerous side effects.

Colon cleansing, technically known as colonic hydrotherapy or colonic irrigation, is a popular treatment, usually performed at spas. It often involves the use of chemicals in the body and in hydrotherapy, the colon is flushed with water through a tube inserted in the rectum.

But oral home remedies are also available and have become popular, especially over the Internet. Now researchers from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. say there's no evidence any of these colon cleansing treatments work and, in fact, when used improperly can cause cramping, kidney failure and in some extreme cases, death.

"There can be serious consequences for those who engage in colon cleansing whether they have the procedure done at a spa or perform it at home," says the lead author, Dr. Ranit Mishori, a family medicine physician at Georgetown University School of Medicine. "Colon cleansing products in the form of laxatives, teas, powders and capsules... tout benefits that don't exist."

Mayo doctor is no fan of cleanses

Although colon cleansing has been around for centuries as a way to rid the body of unwanted toxins, the American Medical Association determined in the early 1900s that the procedure was invalid; there was no evidence to show the methods worked. And even though there still remains no solid evidence these products do what they claim, colon cleansing has been making a comeback, mainly because manufacturers claim it also helps people lose weight.

"If this method were the key to weight loss, it would be amazing. But there is no evidence that this helps people lose weight,” says Mishori. "Manufacturers don't describe how it works. The statements are a little empty. They say it will enhance your immune system, up your metabolism, give you energy. It’s all pretty vague. Some people swear by it, but it could be a placebo effect. And companies can make these claims, because the federal government doesn't regulate their products."

Not expecting miracles, but I love my cleanses

According to the report released this week in the Journal of Family Practice, Mishori and her colleagues examined 20 studies published in medical literature over the last 10 years.

Investigators noted while these reports showed little evidence of colon cleansing benefits, there were a number of side effects reported following the use of these cleansing methods. Those effects included cramping, bloating, nausea, vomiting, electrolyte imbalance and renal failure. And in some cases, ingredients in these remedies were toxic.

"Some herbal preparations have also been associated with aplastic anemia and liver toxicity," Mishori said.

Researchers also noted that many of the "spas" that offer colon cleansing have no trained clinicians and even organizations such as the National Board for Colon Hydrotherapy and others who promote colon cleansing require technicians who perform professional colon cleansing to have little more than a high school diploma.

"When you flush your colon out with a hose, it's like giving yourself an enema on steroids. You shouldn't put things up there that really don't belong there," stressed Mishori. "Imagine 60 liters of water going through your colon. The stress it puts on the system, and the hose, if not used correctly, could puncture the organ."

As for the home remedies, Mishori says there's no need for them. "We poop and pee for a reason. If you are a healthy person, the body does it for you."

When asked what was the best way to cleanse the body, Mishori was quick to respond.

"Eat a balanced diet, exercise regularly," she stressed, "Get six to eight hours of sleep and see a doctor regularly. But no one wants to do that," she said with exasperation. "But they'll use a hose to flush themselves out! The use of these methods are unhealthy. And what's scary is we only examined the cases that were reported to hospitals and doctors. Imagine all the people who are using these products and methods and have side effects and never go to the hospital. We don't know about them. The numbers could be staggering."

There are NO chemicals involve in a colon hydrotherapy. I would know I'm technicians. Water in, water out. This person who wrote this article need to get his fact right. It"s obvious this person has not ever had the experience of a cleans.

People willing to find out the truth about this procedure, instead of reading this stupid, misinformed article, should read the work of Dr. Norman Walker. Dr. Walker wrote many books explaining how every part of the body works and how to improve the health via juicing, performing enema and colonics using distilled water, water with lemon juice or coffee.

Coffee enema is used in many protocols for cancer or other chronic diseases. Example: Dr. Gerson's therapy, Dr. Gonzales from New York, the late Dr. Kelley's protocol and more.

To the doctor from Mayo Clinic:
Please don't try to impress people using the clinic name; Is not impressive anymore. Mayo clinic became long time ago a political place just like any other hospital where only pharma's products are accepted, praised and used.

To talk about the side effects of the plants is laughable, considering what the doctors prescribe. Just look at the recall of so many medications. Look at their own advertising where they are obligated to list the side effects. Medication for depression which gives suicidal "side effect" or lymphoma side effect it's ok with Mayo doctor.

Can you show any proof that these cleanses work? What do you think they 'do'? What "toxins" are in your colon that need to be removed? And how injecting water into the colon "natural"?

People need to realize that colon cleaning has a purpose and that there are best colon cleansing strategies and some that are knockoffs that give the industry a bad wrap. I would be sure to do your research before having the cleansing done.

No, what's scary is a one-sided study and even scarier than that is a high profile article based on a one sided study.

This is an interesting post. I have no knowledge on colon cleansing techniques but do believe that a healthy diet is needed for optimal health; including the functions of the colon (this is proven). I will not bash those who said that colon cleansing has worked for them because what works for some may not work for others and research is ultimately just the personal experience of many done enough times until it becomes fact. Let’s not be so naïve to believe that facts could also become myths with more “mass personal experience” i.e.: the world is flat, Pluto is a planet, cigarettes are healthy, nicotine is not addictive and many more. Be mindful that anything done incorrectly can cause adverse side effects. Heart surgeons, with all their experience and research, do not have a 100% success rate.

You can eat all the veggies you want and you'll not get the nurients that your body needs to flush out the body/Bowel Movement as it is wel known that the soil world wide is depleted of the nutrients that our body is required to have to function properly, therefore you need to supplement with the right supplements and to have 3 bowel movements a day anything less is not beneficial to the body.
It use to be that the body was able to flush and elimanate the way it should but since people are eating wrong and all the food facotries are putting so many chemicals into processed foods to preserve their products.
Food for thought why are there so many disease now days compared to 20 years ago?
These chemicals are harming the body and the body is overloaded and cannot eliminate these harmful chemicals
Your colon is the sewer system it's 'very important to eliminate the waste. If your pipe are backing up in your house you call someone to clean them out. If you don't clean your internal pipes (colon) what is going to happen?? You figure that one out on your own it doesn't take a rocket Sciencestist to figure this one out

The shame of it is that the 'health' care industry both alternative and traditional have 'fans'. Very reactionary fans. If the pharmaceutical company comes out with a drug the health fans jump to condemn it and most testing of herbal remedies follow a model that precludes any real long term effect of the herb or vitamin. It might have been better, and less ordinary, if all the fans forget their mantras and concentrate on health. The doctor uses blanket terminology not far different from the 'health food fans' and it is not all together honest. In greater than 90% of people who use pain medications, such as cancer patients, extreme constipation can result. While it might be true that the colon is not designed to have a great amount of water passing through it, it is not designed to have extreme pounds hardened fecal matter sitting in it either. Other conditions, whether medically induced or as a result of how one lives, also can cause this problem. The next time you see a basically thin to 'normal' size person who has a firm or hard belly that is hanging over their pants it may NOT be because they are fat. Colon cleansing causes a weight lose because of the amount of stored fecal matter it removes and because the body retains less water when this matter is no longer in the body. It is not inconceivable that a colon cleanse (traditional, simple) be used in this type of situation. If you are using oral drops or anything of that nature they are more than likely laxatives and not a traditional water cleanse. Traditional doctors will often caution against the use of laxatives even when the patient is eliminating only once or twice a week. Strange, since matter can not be created or destroyed, it stands to reason that when you eat and it does not come out then the waste is still in your body. Leave even digested meat out in 98.6 degree weather and see if you feel you would like that inside of you for a few days. Sleep will not help medically induced, nor even help much, a biologically tendency to constipation. I only heard one doctor put it rather well. He suggested a herbal laxative for his patient who was having such trouble. She said "but I hear that I can get addicted to them" to which he replied "You can but would you rather take one herbal tablet a day or be full of shi *". Good bedside manner, no, but practical advice I think. Unfortunately, I had such a problem. I went to both traditional and more holistic based doctors, I learned from both. I have used approximately 10 traditional colon cleanses in the last 10 years. I take one herbal laxative per day. In the last ten years my weight has gone from 210 pounds to 175 pounds while I have done little to change my diet. I feel better, I am not physically tired or miserable anymore. While I appreciate the view points of all the 'fans' (on either side) I wish they would remember people like me who were not much concerned about 'sides'. I also hope that people who may want to seek out holistic type treatments realize that traditional doctors are licensed for a reason, good reasons and are help to certain standards. Many holistic providers may have no such credentials or training. They also can suffer from overblown ego's especially when they feel its a mission to put all those 'evil' pharmaceutical doctors out of business. If a claim is made it should be supported if not in literature then in DIRECT statements by those who have been treated. Talk to them personally. LOOK at them and see if they look healthy. Any doctor (of any persuasion) who tells you an entire field of 'medicine' is 'bad' or 'evil' is probably talking more about themselves.

Seriously, take this apart and really look at it .... maybe 15 or 20 people reacted badly to who's knows what kind of colon cleaning? The reason that that there aren't significant numbers of people going to the hospital is because colon hydrotherapy and colon cleaning work astoundingly well, supported by many doctors, and hospital appearances are rare if at all!

My questions to the doctors that wrote this is simply this: How many people annually are injured from colonoscopies? How many people annually DIE from Iatragenic (doctor caused) diseases? Please. Anybody who has received professional colon therapy, knows that we don't use a "hose," nor do we use 60 liters of water. Get your facts straight. I highly recommend reading this article if you want to know the truth about what open minded doctors (including board certified gastroentistinal surgeons) think of colon therapy:

That's why they now a multi-billion dollar industry and every few months a new 'procedure' comes out and everyone runs out and buys whatever crap they are told to buy. The only difference between modern medicine and alternative medicine is that modern medicine has to spend years and hundreds of millions of dollars to prove that their products are safe and actually do something. I'd love to see the alternative weenies have to prove that their products work. Until then they'll continue fleecing the idiots out there....and they deserve it.

My Dad had collitis and was treated for over two years with acecol. Dr.'s do not know how to CURE colitis, just ask any of them. I had my dad go to my physician who runs a clinic where colonics was practiced by a licensed nurse who knew her business. My doctor stated to us that his colitis would be cured within 30 days, at most, and it was. He just had a colonoscopy over 6 years after the colonics and his doctor said he could tell my dad had had colitis but his colon looked very good. There you go.

I agree with your post Bradshaw, and am glad your father got help. Colitis is a horrible disease and traditional medicine is woefully inept at treating it. I have IBS, and never found any doctors, especially gastroenterologists, who could help me. I suffered terribly for almost 30 years until I learned how to manage my illness with diet, exercise, an occasional colonic (I have only had two in 15+ years) and enema therapy. I think that is traditional medicine was more effective – and less expensive and painful – then people wouldn't feel the need to seek alternative therapies. There are, of course, alternative remedies that are harmful – that's why people should do their research and try to keep an open mind. Doctors are not God, after all. They also have financial incentives, because sick people are good business.

The doctor's argument is always the same: There are no enough scientific studies that prove the efficiency of such treatment. In other words, they don't know if it works or not. It would be better if people only to argue about things they know, in order to avoid to give wrong information.

    August 2, 2011 at 08:48 | Report abuse | Reply
    • rapierpoint

That's not an argument. Let me show you. Since there were no major scientific studies regarding the effects of smoking, we couldn't say whether smoking was good or bad for people. So since, initially folks didn't know the effects, they should have just kept their mouths shut and only talked about things they did know. Seriously, if you are talking about putting things into your body (and in the case of irrigation – the wrong direction), I'd say it's better to be safe than sorry. Until the beneficial effects are proven, these procedures shouldn't be touted as cures.

Yes, rapier. And I keep thinking that in eight pages of comments, surely one of those touting the benefits of cleanses would be able to point to studies, proof, evidence that they do anything at all to help one's health. Yet there's not a single thing but anger at those who ask for said proof and accusations that anyone who requires evidence is simply a "sheep".

After reading their posts, I'm more convinced than ever that cleanses are a bad idea. They're not 'natural' at all and that's the most laughable element of the arguments these proponents put forth.

What a shame science education, along with all other aspects of education, has been ignored and cut by conservatives. This is the result.

      Richard,

That's the way science works: The default is, a treatment doesn't work. The only way you get to say a treatment *does* work is if it's had sufficient scientific study. (In the case of pharmaceuticals, this involves years of different levels of clinical tests.) Any scientist who wants to is perfectly free to conduct the clinical trials that would prove the benefits of colonics. To the best of my knowledge, none have done so. If the people selling colonics really want to be taken seriously, they have to conduct the kinds of studies that scientists take seriously.

Stop and think about this. A barium enema is still supposed to be good, but an herbal based enema is now bad. This article is typical agenda driven b.s. that big pharma keeps sponsoring to tell us how chemicals are healthy and products using natural indgredients (unpatentable) are bad.

A barium enema is performed for the purpose of diagnosing an illness. No one's claiming it's "good" for you-it's necessary, just like it's necessary to take a laxative before a colonoscopy. Herbal cleanses do nothing and serve no purpose. Unless you can prove otherwise, you haven't any argument.

I have read these posts and I see nothing from the pro-colon-cleansing folks but "I know it works–it made me feel better" and "if you don't believe colon cleansing is good, you work for the AMA, Big Pharma, or are a money-hungry doctor who likes keeping people sick to increase his/her business."

Not a single shred of anything approaching proof from any of them-because there isn't any. Which is precisely what the article says.

If a colon cleanse worked for them, even if it was a placebo effect, then good for them. It takes a sad individual to sulk at other people's health and well-being. Secondly, what type of scientific proof do you expect from a forum that encourages personal opinions and experiences (a doctor's note? lab tests? a control group?) Why don't you go read a medical journal or find some fellow academic-wannabes to indulge in your shallow pretentiousness.

Too bad for you, dear. I'm not terribly concerned about "feelings and opinions" about medical procedures that are unproven and can be dangerous. I'm requesting that anyone who has evidence that proves they're useful and beneficial produce said evidence. Why do you have a problem with that? And if you do have a problem with that or with anything else, why don't you take it up with the management here?

Methinks the pathology is on your part, honey.

For one, please stop calling me honey and sweetcheecks. It's creepy and disturbing.

Secondly, I'm genuinely interested in the topic and the only reason why I'm responding to your posts is because I feel the need to call you out on your unprovoked aggression and diatribes (it's also amusing), which is quite sad, even for an anonymous forum.

So you've actually taken the time to go through all the pages to look for my comments? You must be the biggest hypocrite I don't care to know. Unlike you who apparently obsessively spell/grammar checks every post here, I'm only skimming through the comment pages, yet you seem to call out anyone who disparages your aggression and pathological obsession with these boards as "anal-rententive" or someone with too much time. LMFAO! This is BEYOND funny!

Dude, look in the mirror if you can stand too see your own sad face (hopefully hypocrite will come to mind).

      Tom, Tom, the Piper's Son,
And dude, I seriously need to reiterate this because you apparently can't get it into your thick skull. I am only skimming through the comments section to read peoples opinions, and its obvious to anyone how your name and diatribes are continually peppered throughout all the pages (I can do this out of the corner of my eye). You're the one actually obsessively and anal-retentively going through the comments pages to search for my comments out of spite (not because you have a vested interest in skimming through other peoples comments), and then calling me out on grammar and the fact that apparently all my posts have been replies to you (how would you know that?).

    • Tom, Tom, the Piper's Son

Again, you prove my point. You aren't even interested in the subject, but in attempting to bait and then getting irritated and complaining about my responses. You don't like it, tough toenails. I'll do as I please. If you can't stand to be ridiculed and corrected, then leave. I won't care. Although I'll miss seeing how many times you keep clicking back here to repeat the exercise.

If you're interested in colon cleanses, why do you discuss them? If you think they're a big waste of money, why don't you post that?

As far as I can see, you're just a bored little troll who doesn't know what to do with himself and your mommy has blocked all the p0rn sites on her computer, so you're here.

Poor little dunstl. What a sad and lonely summer you must be having. I can only imagine what it must be like for a kid who has no real friends and has only the invisible ones on the internet with which to interact.

Why didn't your mommy send you to summer camp?

      August 2, 2011 at 15:10 | Report abuse |
    • Tom, Tom, the Piper's Son

Gee, you're not obsessed at all, are you, dunstl? Two posts in a row? Wow. You are funny. You've posted nothing here about the subject in which you claim to be interested. You haven't asked anyone any questions about the subject or about their feelings or opinions. You're just "skimming" but you can't seem to ignore my posts. You have noticed when I've posted and how many times, and you've read my posts enough to need to "call me out". Why is that? Are you pretending to be some sort of little superhero of the internet?

Why do you care so much what I write and what do you imagine your "calling me out" is going to do? Do you dream you have some sort of authority? That you're anything other than a little amusement for me? I use posters like you the way my cat uses toy mice, hon. And I'll call you anything I wish, dearie.

You see, with a reply like shows how insecure, sad, and pathetic of a person you really are – especially since you have to reach far and hard. Yeah, you really hurt my feelings because I have no friends and mommy couldn't send me to summer camp. In that you know nothing about me other then that I'm a teenager, is making up insults out of thin air really going to offend me, or are you just projecting your own problems on to me (I'm sorry if you never got to go to summer camp). On the other hand, all my insults/criticism towards you is base solely on your tangible anti-personality disorder, which is most likely a reflection of who you are in real life.

And actually I have posted several thoughtful comments using my one and only screen name dustl in pertaining to the subject matter of the article. Unlike you however, I don't resort to unprovoked aggression and diatribes when somebody expresses an opinion I don't agree with. This is at the heart of why I'm calling you out.

OOOooooh, you're 'calling me out'. I'm so scared! Dunstl is calling me out! Woe is me! Dunstl doesn't like me! Boo hoo hoo!

Really, sweetcheeks, keep it up. It's getting funnier with every post. The fact that you are sitting at your mommy's computer waiting for responses is pathetic.

Meanwhile, I've accomplished numerous tasks and am checking in to view your little tantrums as I have moments free to do so.

Don't disappoint me, now. I COMMAND you to "call me out" again. I'll be waiting. Try to throw in another couple of LMFAO and LOLs, dearie. They make you look ever so mature, too.

LOL!!! Dude, all you have to do is reread your post to understand who is acting immature. Seriously, just reread what you wrote – you've gone aggressive diatribes to nonsensical ranting. I think you're finally started to crack. I don't know how old you are but it is quite clear that you're the one who lacks maturity and that I've won this argument.

Oh, and before I sign off, I can't help but address the irony that everything you've called me out on, from being immature, obsessive, anal-retentive, friendless, and waiting by the computer for your responses, are the exact traits you embody to the extreme (though the hallmark of a sociopath is his obliviousness to this). Before I sign off, I do wish you the best of luck i the future in regards to your happiness because you obviously have an anti-personality disorder that needs to be addressed.

I love all the people insisting that doctors only say things that will line their pockets and the AMA only says chemical stuff is good and natural stuff is bad because they can't get involved with natural stuff. Guess what? The random companies selling you their "organic herbal remedies" are also ONLY IN IT FOR THE MONEY. they repeat these empty promises of magical cures with no scientific basis for why they work and what they really do to reel in non-thinking people who want the quick fix to what is, in most cases, a non problem. Want to lose weight? go to the freaking gym. there is NO magic weight loss pill, including one that claims to clean the crud out of your colon.

      Excellent point.

I would also add that it's not true that pharmaceutical companies don't like natural treatments because they can't sell them. Pharmaceutical companies *do* sell them. There are a lot of drugs based off of natural treatments. They make them marketable by enhancing their effects or improving the delivery systems.

Did you know that people used to believe that the earth was flat? That the sun revolved around the earth? That people of color are less intelligent than whites? Did you know that we think that coffee is healthy and so we give our hard earned money to Starbucks so that the CEO can be a millionaire? Did you know that people used to think blood letting was an effective form of treatment, that women are inferior to men, that cigarettes are healthy? Just because this is an "alternative" form of treatment doesn't make it wrong. As far as I'm concerned, no dermatologist has ever helped me with my issues. They just prescribe medicine and collect the $$$.

Liver toxicity is definitely a scary subject. Thinking that fruits and vegetables as well as some dairy products would be the healthiest aspect towards concentrated health improvements, which being improvised through techniques like cleaning sponges and using products such as alcohol and vinegar as astringents to erase...while adding milks and exfoliants like bananas as additives to support a texture that would increase mental acuity towards activity having to do with caring for ones self have all compelled me to seek more cholesterol unfortuneately.

I I have done cleanses and enemas, etc. I do not take them regularly and have not taken them for many years. They do work if done right. I do yoga and before the cleanse with enemas I could barely touch my toes in a sitting position. In 5 days, my whole chest touched my legs with my kneeds straight. When lying down on my stomach and pushing up with my arms, I could only put my legs up in a perpendicular position with the toes 2 feet away from my head. 5 days later I could touch my toes to my head in the same posture. I had much less tension in my body because of less toxins in my colon.

"We poop and pee for a reason. If you are a healthy person, the body does it for you." – So what about the unhealthy people who may not poop regularly . . . like myself?. I don't think colon cleansing should be used to loose weight. And if you're healthy, don't fix what isn't broke. But if you've been chronically constipated, you need to do two things – 1) get the poop out – a build up of old feces is not good for you & 2) figure out the root of the constipation – laxatives and cleanses are not the cure, just an aid in the process of healing. Cutting all cow milk products out of my diet made the largest difference. Then gluten seems to be next inline to cause me to clog up. Most ailments are diet related. One must be ready and willing to make major changes to their eating habits for real health. And though I may miss icecream and cheese, I feel so much better in the long run.

LOOK FOLKS. WHO PAID FOR THIS "STUDY"? If anyone doesn't think the drug companies, and MD's are not getting "scared of alternative heath care", think again. Their "magic bullet- Antibiotics" is running into a cement wall and becoming ever more ineffective, ever more "powerful and expensive"-(and dangerous) for the public. Super bugs, are not affected by this "MD-Drug company-AB- "bullets" anymore. The bugs are mutating, and becoming ever stronger and more dangerous. Just look at all the "tradional drugs" being pushed. Read the label. The side effects in many cases are worse than the "cure". According to the US Health Administration, 250,000 people a year DIE from "misperscribed?" Drugs.
Ask the people that are being helped by Chiropractors,Natural Homeopathic MD's,etc. No one has died from this type of Care. If 20 people died, they would be "out of business", but the "Practicing Medicine" crowd are killing patients left and right, and the media "is silent" about this. Why? Drug Ads bring in tons of money to "the media". "Follow the Money Trail"
Yes, there are a number of great and needed meds. But don't shoot down what works, in non traditional health care.
And it does work. Ask the people who have been helped. millions of them.!

"This study" only involved 20 people.........why not do a "study" on the 250,000 "patients" per year that DIE from "misperscribed" Drugs from the "Practicing Medicine" crowd- Drug Companies/MD'S/Hospitals?- and speaking about hospitals, why not do a study on SEPSIS, the killer infection that is now a top 5 killer of patients "in hospitals"?? Post surgery?

It's always the ignorant and supposedly well meaning trying to preach to the experienced. As a matter of fact, here's an old saying, " a man with experience is never in fear of a man with an argument".

The writer of this article more than likely has not experienced colon cleanses. I have, over many years. They have been the greatest health aide to me in so many ways. Before the modern pill generation, colonics were the common way for doctors to help people clear digestive ailments and stomach issues, often in the doctors office during a routine visit.

This generation has been seduced by pills and the like. We live in a world of toxic soup and have an overload of poisons in our system regardless of how well we try to eat and exercise. Cleaning our colons in a professional atmosphere is a great way to maintain health, it has been for me. Yes, there is a possibility of a serious injury if the person administrating the cleanse makes a mistake. If we wish to talk about that, let's also talk about the many thousands of people who die in hospitals from mistakes made by doctors and nurses.

Nothing is foolproof, but having written this post, I feel like booking a colonic in the near future.

After three years of every GI medical test imaginable, countless doctor's appointments, ER visits, humiliating experiences, I had not one but two prominent surgeons tell me, a 26 year old girl, that I should have my colon removed.

Doing that would have destroyed any chance of a normal life. Made working, dating, traveling extremely difficult.

I walked out and never looked back.

I go for weekly colon hydrotherapy appointments and it truly saved my life. The doctor quoted here has a lot to learn. A risky procedure to remove the body's largest organ, or weekly colonics that allow me to eat like a normal person and live a healthy life - which is safer? Come on.

Ideally we would be eating a diet rich in fruits, veggies, whole grains, lean, clean cuts of meat and other whole foods. Then we would not need a detox/cleanse. But, unfortunately, that is not the case for many. For those that want a quick fix, you could risk a day in the bathroom on a cleanse but then use it to kick off you new healthy lifestyle. http://mydiscoverhealth.com

Colon Hydro therapist is required to go to school to become educated. We have to take Anatomy II & I and the anatomy of the colon also, we do become certified therapist, therefore we just don’t wake up one day and say “Oh I want to be a colon hydro-therapist” and start our business. We put in many of hours of training!!
We believe in doing no HARM!

Our colon systems is a type II medical devices which we have to have a prescription from a medical doctor to have the system, plus it’s FDA regulated.

If the body was cleaning it’s self out properly then why is there so many colon issues such as: IBS, Colitis, Diverticulosis, Crohn’s Disease, Carcinoma of the colon, Constipation or Diarrhea and etc.
It’s a known fact that colon cancer is the second leading cancer in the U.S. What does that tell you??!!

Don’t you think these issues are a warning that your body isn’t functioning or eliminating properly?

I’ve had clients that only have 1 bowel movement a week and their doctors said that’s okay. No that’s no okay the body isn’t functioning right.
You need to eliminate 20 minutes after you have a meal and if your body isn’t doing that then guess what your body isn’t functioning right.

How often do you get sick? How often do you feel lethargic?
Think about where that is coming from?
What does stagnate waste materials do to your body?

I feel CNN should research both sides of the coin before the post. But most news stations
Don’t get all the facts before they post.

there seem to be a few things that should be considered when deciding which type of medicine is better:

1- long-term effects. anti-depressants causing suicidal tendencies; a popular new-ish treatment for arthritis, Crohn's disease and UC causing a greater risk of a blood/bone marrow cancer; another treatment for Crohn's and UC causing liver damage if taken too long...and yet some people complain about occasional cramps or nausea? the point is to be PROPERLY informed before taking any medication, traditional or alternative

2- if alternative medicine is so good that many traditional medication is based on it, then why add to it? also, alternative medicine has been studied since the dawn of humanity, otherwise why wasn't someone more recent labeled the Father of Medicine?

finally, I know this has nothing to do with the subject, but remember that courteous discussion is welcomed, I can't believe adults can act like this, there are several posts that seem to come from pubescent boys...

anyway, I do apologize if I seem preachy, just giving my opinion like everyonbe else

I researched a colon cleanse solution for my health for many weeks before making a choice. I had no preconcieved notions of the Dr Max Powers brand, and was SHOCKED by the results!! The 15 Day Cleanse ( from Dr Max Powers online) has changed my life. Not an exageration at all. I have an injury from many years back that has taken its toll on me and caused me unending pain. With the inflammation of my digestive system eleviated, the inflammation and pain elsewhere is virtually nonexistant!! Not a bad side effect from a 15 Day Cleanse! I also lost 15 lbs and have managed to keep it off. I am very impressed with this product!

In bathrooms where cpatciay is less of an issue, there's plenty of choice too. Larger vanity units or washstands could be paired with longer projection toilets; basin and WC mixture units combine a streamlined vanity unit and WC unit having a back to wall or wall hung toilet for all-in-one style this can save space for other bathroom furniture, but you do want a sufficiently wide section of wall on which to position the unit. They commence at much less than a metre wide and go up and up in scale.
