Fighting the voices in my headThings have been a bit difficult lately, and I'm not sure why. Hawaii was great, training has been exhilarating, exciting and I feel better physically, mentally and spiritually. So what’s wrong? It’s battling the voice that tells me to stay in bed when I hear the alarm go off at 4:30AM. Battling the voice that tells me my body is too sore today and I need a day of rest (although it's in the middle of the week and I don't typically take weekdays off of training). Battling the voice that tells me I will find time to do it later in the evening (even though I know that is the most difficult time for me to train with so many more competing priorities). Battling the voice that tells me it is more generous to help my wife with the kids than it is to follow through with a workout commitment to my coach. I have coined these random yet frequent conversations my “battle dialog”. Basically my own mind is working against itself. It is not an outside force, a discouraging friend or frustrated family member. It's a self-inflicted mind game. How do I rid myself of these moments of weakness which come more frequently now than they did when I first began training 6 months ago? Where is my drive, my determination, my motivation? It seems as though those attributes have been thwarted by a small voice that whispers to me “not now” “maybe later." That little voice that creeps into my mind must be stopped but how? PEOPLE! Yes, my coach, my wife, my kids, my running buddies, my friends, my family. I rely on all of them. My coach’s encouragement, my running buddies’ pep talks and most importantly my wife’s nudge to get out of the bed. So, for any of you out there that battle the little voice inside your head that tells you to put it off, do it tomorrow or you deserve a break. Fight it! Find people who won’t let you give in to the voice and who encourage you to get up and do it (even if it is just for today)! |

"Morman"? Is that like "Merman"? You know, as in "mermaid"? Or Ethel?
Get a job, you lazy kid.
@Tom, how are you? I'm your long-standing Christian acquintance in CNN blog. I never knew you were interested in health issues. Let's be nice. I hope you didn't find me being mean to Americans. Truth is hard. I love USA, please remember.
@Tom: Okay, it's "acquaintance." Is this section another American gathering? I really miss talking with my Southeast Asian friends...
I used to listen to the voices in my head.
then the voices outsided my head.
but now they're telling me to kill too!
@Iveseen-, never trust yourself. Admit you are a sinner. A beginning of obtaining objective facts and liberation by truth.
Believe in Jesus; it will be gone.
People need liberation from the abysmal stuff that's concentrated on "me" and "my." Dying for the fatherland under unwise commanders would be less foolish and wasteful than this selfism.
