Triathlete hopes to inspire other momsIn the 2011 Fit Nation Triathlon Challenge , six selected viewers will participate in a six-month training program. Each will receive all the gear, training and nutritional support necessary to complete the race and will compete alongside Dr. Sanjay Gupta on August 7 in the Nautica New York City Triathlon. Growing up India, Kas Seerla cannot remember ever breaking a sweat exercising. "Sports and athletics weren't encouraged for girls," she said. "Physical activity was not a priority. The focus was on academics." But, she always felt as if she were missing out on the fun, so when she came to the U.S. for college, her appetite for learning new sports was insatiable. Mexican-American strokes predicted to skyrocket by 2050Strokes are expected increase sharply among Mexican-Americans –350% over the next 40 years. The findings were presented at the American Stroke Association's International Stroke Conference in Los Angeles. Using recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Census, University of Michigan researchers considered the current trends to help calculate the potential burden of stroke by 2050. They predict strokes among Mexican-Americans will rise from about 26,000 in 2010 to more than 120,000 in 2050. In fact, Scott spends all day talking about it with his overweight patients and their parents, but he himself is not fit. “I’ve been part of ‘unfit nation’ for many years – I’ve struggled with my weight. It’s gone up and down,” he said. "As a pediatrician I should set a better example for my patients," Diet soda and stroke: Is there a link?Is it really called "diet" soda because it's better for you? A new study is calling that into question, but beware that the results are preliminary and don't entirely support the conclusion. Researchers at the American Stroke Association's International Stroke Conference 2011 conducted an experiment on this topic, and found that people who drink diet soda may have a much higher risk of vascular events compared to those who don't drink soda. They followed participants for an average of 9.3 years and kept track of vascular events such as stroke that occurred. That’s not to say it won’t be intimate, but this year there will be no extravagant dinner, no flimsy lingerie that will never get worn, no expensive jewelry bought at the last minute—and no possibility of not having sex. All obstacles to sex will be removed. According to CNN, more than 40 million Americans are stuck in sexless marriages, and sometimes it seems like my own sex life is going the way of my gym membership: less frequently used as time goes by, with sessions that are hard on the knees and don’t last nearly as long as I intended.
