U.S. Hispanics living longer than white and black Americans
Hispanics in the United States live longer than non-Hispanic whites and blacks, according to new data from the Center for Disease Control's National Center for Health Statistics. The statistics, which were collected in 2006 from death certificates reported in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and outlying U.S. territories, found Hispanic people on the average, outlive both non-Hispanic whites and non-Hispanic blacks by almost eight years. The report noted life expectancy for Hispanic men at birth was almost 78 and if they reached 65, their life expectancy shot up to 84. For women it was a little higher: From birth, 83 years, and after 65, to 87 years. In non-Hispanic white males, life expectancy from birth was almost 76 years of age and 82 years if they reached the age of 65. For non-Hispanic black males, those numbers dropped significantly to 69 years of age at birth and 80 years after they reach 65. In women, the numbers were a little higher. Non-Hispanic white women lived an average of 80 and half years from birth, and if they made it to 65, they lived an average age of almost 85 years. In non-Hispanic black women, those numbers were a little lower than white females, with black women living an average of 76 years at birth and almost 83 and half years if they reach 65 Lead author of the report, Elizabeth Arias, a demographer for the NCHS, said there are a couple of theories why Hispanics live longer, but none of them conclusive. "Migration could play a factor," notes Arias. " "Immigrants are selected for better health, so they are healthier when they get to the U.S than the general U.S. population." And there's the flip side. "The other is return migration, "said Arias. "That immigrants return home when they're sick so they're not captured in the vital statistics in the U.S." Arias also notes cultural factors such as family compositions, social networks, and behaviors such as smoking, diet could make a difference. But others who deal with Hispanic health say these factors can also hurt Hispanics. Dr. Jane L. Delgado, the president and CEO of the National Alliance for Hispanic Health, the leading advocacy group for Hispanic health in the United States, says of Latinas in particular: "We live longer than non-Hispanic women, but we suffer more from diseases (obesity,diabetes, heart disease) that compromise the quality of our longer lives." That's why Delgado is the driving force behind the nation's largest Hispanic family physical fitness program, ¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving! as well as other programs focused on heart health, diabetes, and other conditions that Hispanic men, women and children traditionally suffer from. |

Actually Lola... I would bet its the free healthcare they receive in industrialized countries like the U.S.. Must be nice !!! I have to pay for everything myself. Maybe if I move to Mexico, i can get free healthcare. probably not but its nice to have a dream
No, It's because they know how to stress everyone out-whether it be from disrupting your gym routine or making sure the clog the freeways on your way to work and (last but not least) making sure that their kids stay at the same school as anglo-americans and screwing up the entire school system.
Living in San Diego for the last 30 years, one thing i've noticed is that family relationships are everything to hispanics. It doesn't surprise me that life expectancy is longer. I do realize that i'm speaking in general terms and that my evidence is merely anecdotal.

I would be living 900 yrs, just like Noah if I had all the welfare, healthcare, housing, anchor babies, and the jobs, force people to speak mexican (hispanic and latin is a cr@p), force driver licenses for illegal mexicans and as a mexican hire only mexicans (illegals usually) send all my money to mexico and own property in mexico (which americans can't), run to mexico after committing class 1 felonies, occupy over 50% mexican in all prisons, hospitals, schools, courts FREE FREE FREE FREE 900 YEARS

I think its from all the tequila we drink. And yes hispanics do take care of thier elderly. White folks ship off thier elderly to the Care homes as soon as they start forgeting a thing or two. I install telephone service for the phone company and Ive notice that at least 90% of the residents in the homes are white. I got to tell you that I dont like installing in Care homes. It is a very depressing and sad sceen.

Of course they live longer, they have free health care and can go to the Dr. at a whim. Us normal folk have to pay for our care.

Well media did their job talk about divide and conquer. The media should try something new but since this is the United States it will always be divided by almost everything.
Maybe because they have less stress in their lives. I am married to a mexcian. His Brothers are here with their girl friends. They all work for cash have between 4 – 8 kids all the GF's and kids are on welfare and foods stamps due to "no recorded income". It's easy for them to not have to pay for food, medical and housing. My spouse and I pay $250 for health insurance through my employer, pay our mortgage, income taxes and propert taxes. They get mad because they want to rent from us and we refuse to get section 8 approved. We both believe they need to report their income – we cant even turn them in to immigration as the INS only deports if they have a felony plus all the anchors they have. So maybe the govt needs to approve the amnesty and make them get a paycheck which subtracts the income tax and they can pay child support to the kids.
Hispanics don't have less stress. What a load of nonsense. Dealing with racist whites who scapegoat others for their lack of success in life is very stressful.
Too many freakin Hispanics in this country. They are taking over communities. Blacks are complaining they are moving into their neighborhoods in droves and they can't get away from them. Whites are complaining they are having to pay for their upkeep, free medical, etc.
Solution: Give Puerto Rico their independence whether they want it or not. Close our borders all the way, increase border patrol security. Crack down on illegal immigration, just get these people the freak out of this country. For every 1 Hispanic family in this country, you automatically have 3-4 more possibly six dependent on how many babies these people have. Before long Whites will be a minority and these people will be demanding their rights, wanting to change the the official language to Spanish. Americans are always very slow to wake up...usually too late when the ball has already dropped!
Kick every last Hispanic out of this country is the best solution for all of America! Too freakin many of them here, you can't breathe in some places, they are all over the freakin place, you can't get away from them. This seems to be the general consensus!
I'm sure that's how the Native Americans and the Mexicans in the Southwest felt when whites came here in hoardes taking over land and imposing their language and way of life. If you're unhappy feel free to move to the North Pole.
Why would anyone be surprised, They have nothing to stress about, By getting free health care, free prenatal care, free food stamps, WIC etc. its no wonder they are living longer, Yep right off the American tax payers Back!.
Simple~ because we pay for (Free) healthcare – Medical in CA , that covers you better than an HMO when you check into the hospital. We even pay for illegals as long as it is "Emergent" care. I can't wait to go Bankrupt so I can get great benefits!
Doctors say that Medical is better healthcare than HMO's and they are guaranteed payment for services- AWESOME!!!
Oh...and I might add that Mexicans are afraid to go to hospitals in Mexico, they come here illegally for better healthcare (I can't tell you how I know this- but quoted in a patients chart by the patient himself).
:in response to O -O 's posting. Hispanics make poorer diet choices (learned or environmental? I can't say)- and therefore have increased rates of type two diabetes- more prevalent in children which is not supposed to be the case (which has a direct relationship to increases in kidney disease). .....and speaking of Kidneys. Kidney disease – ESRD is one of the "Emergent" conditions which we (Taxpayers) pay for 100%- legally or illegally- Heck, you even get a free ride to the Doctors office and dialysis centers 🙂
Hispanics don't get free healthcare, and if you read the report is says that Hispanics are less likely to see the doctor on a regular basis. Don't let the facts confuse you.
BOTTOM LINE ----SPANISH PEOPLE LIVE LONGER THEN AMERICANS AND THEY ARE JEALOUS!! WE SHOULD BE TAKEN NOTES FROM THEM!
