CDC: Vaccination rates in toddlers remains high

Vaccination rates in young children remain high, according to a CDC report released Thursday.

"Nearly all parents are choosing to have their children protected against dangerous childhood diseases through vaccination," said Dr. Anne Schuchat, Director of the National Center for Immunication and Respiratory Diseases at CDC.

According to the National Immunization Survey (NIS), more than 90 percent of children aged 19 to 35 months are getting all of the appropriate vaccinations. "Fewer than 1 percent of young children got no vaccines at all," Schuchat said.

Vaccinations rates for polio, the measles-mumps-rubella, hepatitis B and chickenpox remain above 90 percent, but a shortage of Hib vaccine contributed to a drop in children receiving this type vaccination.

In recent years, concerns about vaccine safety among children and the link between vaccines and autism have been debunked, but Schuchat says the CDC is aware that concerns still exist.

"While it's encouraging to see immunization rates remaining high, we know that parents have questions about vaccines and we must continue to educate parents about the importance of vaccination to help avoid future resurgences in serious, preventable illnesses," Schuchat said.

A fascinating discussion is worth comment. I do think that you need to write more on this subject, it may not be a taboo subject but generally folks don't talk about such issues. To the next! All the best!!

We would also like to say that most people that find themselves without the need of health insurance are generally students, self-employed and those that are jobless. More than half with the uninsured are under the age of 35. They do not come to feel they are wanting health insurance because they're young plus healthy. Their own income is generally spent on homes, food, along with entertainment. Lots of people that do represent the working class either 100 or not professional are not offered insurance by their work so they go without due to rising valuation on health insurance in the us. Thanks for the ideas you discuss through this blog.

I'm doing a project about spectators and am trying to find peoples opinions and feelings from the olympics (whether watching it in beijing or on the tv).. . I searched technorati for "olympics" and there are sooo many results that are much more recent and come up first, but aren't what I'm looking for, I can't work out how to filter out ones from the games.... . Anyone know how I can do a search for blog posts tagged olympics in say the month of August..
