What is Glenn Beck's eye disorder?
Fox TV personality Glenn Beck announced last week that he has an eye disorder known as macular dystrophy and “could go blind the next year." Beck began to cry during the speech at his “American Revival” tour in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Saturday. “I know what my wife looks like,” he said. “I know what my children look like. I have a great imagination. I know what color looks like. But I love to read.” Beck, 46, then joked, “I thought to myself I’m too darn lazy to learn Braille.” He said he was having trouble focusing his eyes and went to a doctor. Macular dystrophy can be a confusing term, because it’s used broadly and interchangeably with several diseases including macular degeneration, a common cause of blindness for Americans over the age of 60. For someone at the age of 46, the macular dystrophy Beck referred to could be hereditary forms of retina damage, said Dr. David DiLoreto, assistant professor of ophthalmology at the University of Rochester Medical Center, who is not involved in Beck’s care. There are several forms, including pattern dystrophy, adult vitelliform degeneration and dominant drusen. Their symptoms are very gradual, mild and often painless. The early signs could be tiny blind spots, inability to distinguish objects at a distance or waviness in vision. “It makes it difficult to perceive small objects such as reading,” said Dr. Mina Chung, an associate professor of ophthalmology, who researches retinal imaging and genetic eye diseases at the University of Rochester. “In early phases, it can be very mild, with trouble distinguishing fine targets. In later phases, it can cause legal blindness.” The macula, which is the center part of the retina is damaged. Usually, macular dystrophy in adult onset cases does not cause complete blindness, but it could be “very disabling,” she said. Macular dystrophy is rare compared with the more common macular degeneration, which affects at least one in 10 Americans over age 65. Scientists have yet to identify the gene behind macular dystrophy and a cure is not available. Beck credited his religion for helping him cope. "After I stopped feeling sorry for myself, I truly came to a place which is the greatest blessing: Lord, if you need my eyes, they're yours. They were yours the whole time anyway. Wow the whole prayer thing does in fact work because I prayed he would go blind and then soon after die. The lord works in mysterious ways!

Glenn Beck has a personality disorder, he needs help...........why he is considered an entertainer is questionable. The man is mentally not well.
So 'Prayer Works', if others here pray for you to go blind and die, do you think it will really happen? Wait, it just might. By your own words! Just kidding - no one should ever invoke God for something like that. Do you see how malevolent you are? And do you honestly think God will take your request for something as evil as that? If you think He will, you're very sadly mistaken. And I'll let you in on a little secret - we all will die at some point. It's not something you wish, it's a given.
I will never understand why a drunk like Glenn Beck has such a wide conservative audience. I am sad he might lose his eyesight but am curious whether this is just another tall story of his. Time will tell.

It is written that the closer you get to the truth the more satan tries to bring you down but you must never except this condition you must keep up the fight and keep exposing his lies then you shall see oh so clear. I read an article that said Beck's eye disorder is commonplace among those who spend a great deal of time with their head up their arse. If that's the case, Glenn's case is probably irreversible. Sad, really.

Glenn Beck is the closest thing to a return of Jesus that we have had in 2000 years. I actually think he is the second coming of Christ and will soon reveal the truth to all of you hateful mean spirited people that do not understand how the world works and living in the image of God...and living in the image of Glenn. While I agree we should pray for Glenn, I never equate the living God with another human being. We all fall short. And some a lot more than others looking at the vicious comments and attacks.

What most people don't know is that Beck started his on-air career at a local radio station in Tampa... before syndication and TV shows. I actually used to listen to him!
That was until I heard him brag one day about how he and his other Republican thugs were hired to go down to Palm Beach and stop the Supervisor of Elections Office from completing the vote recount during the 2000 presidential election!
According to Beck, they took baseball bats and barged into the building chanting and banging on the windows of the offices where the recount was taking place. Thuggery and intimidation over civilized democratic elections... that's brown shirt nazi strategy. And that's the REAL Glen Beck... in his own words. AND.. he was proud of it!
You know the rest of the story.... George Bush was "Selected" by the US Supreme Court and the country went to war and hell in a handbasket for the next 8 years.

The problem with the “Republicans” and their stepchild “The Evil Violent Tea Party” is they listen too much to the Republican Extremist like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. All they ever do is salute, defend, cover up and put a spin on anything and everything the Republicans ever do. They criticize and blame the Democrats for everything. They continue to lie and deny that the “Bush Administration” darn near destroyed this country. That’s why they have no credibility. If they were honest and fair and pointed out the good, bad and ugly on all sides they would carry a little more clout. Case in point, who won the last election even though they were spewing all that venom?
I do not care about his eyesight however I would love to bear his child/children. I would feel like Mary raising a little Jesus if I could get so lucky to be impregnated by Glenn.

Well, while I can't stand the guy and thing he is a genuine danger to our nation, I certainly hope (if true) that he doesn't end up going blind.
An earlier poster touched on Glen possibly being the second coming our Lord Savior Jesus Christ. I have thought the same thing many times. Glen is our savior, he is our voice of reason, and he is the light that needs to shine bright for our country to navigate in these dark times.

Glen Beck is the "perfect" man if there were ever one other than our Lord Jesus Christ. He displays compassion like Ghandi. Wisdom that rivals any known man to walk this earth. Not to mention intelligence on par with Socrates and Einstein. He is a true blessing from above. The heavens parted the day Glen was born and God deemed it a good day.

I wish Beck well and hope for the best. If the worst case scenario occurs and he loses his vision, he will still "see" things more clearly than ignorant and psychological disturbed liberals ever will.
There's a big difference between legal blindness and total blindness. The macula is one spot on the retina. If Mr. Beck's blindness occurs because of a disease of the macula, he will lose his central vision, but he should maintain his peripheral vision and will more than likely never lose his ability to walk independently as long as he is cautious, to recognize people, and to perform his usual daily living activities. He will lose his ability to drive and his ability to read except very large print. Most legally blind individuals lead fairly normal lives and adapt by using drivers and various reading aids such as magnification, taped material, computer voice programs, and large print.
It's to bad he wont be able to see much longer. To cherish the little things like watching a sunset, fireworks on the 4th of July or seeing his kids grow into little oppressive a-holes like his old man. If only he would loose the ability to speak. Then that would be something to be thankful for. If Beck and Rush would tolerate and accept individuality and diversity or just move to another planet filled with similar jerks, this would would be a little bit more peaceful.
Im not a fan of his views, or his show. But i hope they find a way to slow the eye disease. no one deserves to go blind.

Ed and Gina, my husband and I couldn't agree with you more. Both of us have Master's Degree's and have learned more from Glenn Beck than all of our years of college. I am sure there will be hateful and ignorant comments after my post and I refuse to respond to those. I will, however, say that we are not zombies when it comes to political pundits. We so appreciate that Glenn Beck ALWAYS backs up his lessons with facts. Any educated person that listens to him can not deny that! He loves our country and is so proud of our Founding Fathers. I only wish our president showed 1/2 of Mr. Beck's pride in our country. Yes, 1/2 would be better than what we have now. BTW, I know teachers, pilots, friends and neighbors that now feel the EXACT same way! Many of whom voted for Mr. Obama!

The thing that I find most objectionable about Glen Beck is the fact that he was quiet as a mouse during Bush Jrs. reign. When Bush Jr. started an unfunded war of choice based on cooked intel., doubled the deficit, approved torture, passed the first stimulus package to bail out the banks and gave multi-billion dollar no bid contracts to his cronies Beck was not to be heard. Bush Jr. could do no wrong. Now Beck is a ranting fiscal, small gov. evangelist. A skeptical person might get the impression that his outrage is fueled by a very lucrative tv show supported by a rabid base.
