When will we see a herpes cure?As a feature of CNNhealth.com, our team of expert doctors will answer readers' questions. Here's a question for Dr. Gupta. From Lloyd Bartley, Bowling Green, Kentucky “How close are scientists to developing a cure for herpes, figuratively speaking will we be seeing a break through in 10, 20, or even 30 years?” Answer: Well, Lloyd, there is good news and bad news on the herpes front. The good news: Researchers have made serious strides and now better understand the mechanism behind herpes outbreaks. The bad news: There is very little funding for that research. After receiving your question we reached out to a leading herpes expert, Bryan Cullen, the director at the Center for Virology at Duke University. Cullen is hopeful that a cure for herpes could come within 10 years, once funding hurdles are crossed. Nearly one in five people over age 12 in the U.S. is affected by herpes. It is caused by a virus - either the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) or the herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). Both strains can cause genital herpes, but HSV-1 usually infects the mouth and produces cold sores. Despite funding challenges, Cullen and his team are inching closer to a cure. They conducted a study recently that identified the pathway herpes takes as it infects. They now know how herpes embeds itself into the cells and how it eludes treatment. Now that they have honed in on the physiology of the disease - and its triggers - researchers believe they are steps closer to creating drugs that could cure herpes. While we wait for a cure, there are drugs out there that can at least suppress herpes. Three antiviral drugs: acyclovir, valacyclovir, and famciclovir are commonly recommended to quell outbreaks. A physician might recommend taking these drugs when an outbreak occurs to quiet symptoms; or taking them continuously to reduce the likelihood of an outbreak. And of course the best way to avoid spreading herpes is to abstain from sex, but if you are sexually active, engage in safe-sex practices such as using condoms. Immunovex is in progress – yes. There are several others as Peregrine has an AIDS drug that appears to be promising on the cure for HSV – Isentress is the drug. AICURIS has a drug in phase 2 testing – needing volunteers – currently. Futher, there are several other researchers looking for cures/treatments for herpes.
We all have got to get involved by writing the NIH, CDC, Obama, the researchers, and YES by DONATING. I am not suggesting that you have to "break the bank" in your donations but instead a buck or two a month, by a large percentage of the people will make a HUGE difference.
Please help make herpes a thing of the past. It is now being linked to a whole host of diseases such as Alzheimer's...
With this disease being linked to Alzheimer's alone says much. Think about this! I work in the medical profession. A huge percentage of my patients have early Alzheimer's. I bet all of them test positive for either HSV-1 or HSV-2. Then some of the herpes virus's are linked to cancers and need for corneal transplants. Corneal transplants are the most common transplants. If the virus can be killed, then that's what needs to happen. Not to forget many people who have genital herpes develop depression and have extreme physical pain from the outbreaks. Herpes leads from one medical problem to the another. It needs to be cured. An I'm going to start donating money every month directly to Dr. Bloom or maybe the herpes coalition. Can someone answer this question? I would be more than willing to create educational pamplets regarding the current research on herpes and Dr. Bloom's progress toward killing the herpes virus. Free of charge, completely out of my pocket. I would gather all the information from the herpes coalition, briefly discussing to progress toward curing HSV-1 and funding is crucial if we want to see a cure for other herpes virus's as well. Then I would pass the pamplets out to several business's, including pharmacy's if allowed. Is this legal???????????? All the information would be directly linked to what is found on the herpes coalition website. I would not give out false information. At the same time, is this legal????? I can do this project at a small expense. Plus, I'm writing a letter to the CEO of our company asking how we can get involved in finding a cure for herpes. It will take a convincing letter, but I'm good at convincing people.
I will start sending mass letters out to Obama, NIH, CDC, and I'm also targeting celebrities. So many celebrities suffer from cold sores and I'm sure there are several who suffer from genital herpes as well. Their image is what makes them. If they were even thought to have herpes, their image is out the window. Plus, many of them support charities. Oprah is a powerful woman and she is greatly concerned with her race. Nothing wrong with knowing who you are and where you come from. But, statistics prove that more African Americans have a HSV-2 when compared to whites and non-hispanics. This virus is claiming home to many people and taking their quality of life away. We can make a change and help find funding to support these dedicated scientist.
A vaccine still doesn't cure those who are infected. Yes, it may reduce the severity of outbreaks or viral shedding and etc. BUT, it does not CURE herpes. The vaccine is just as important as finding an actual cure for herpes. Just thankful scientist and are taking this disease to the next level, CURING and PREVENTING. A cure is within reach and the research should be continued. I will give 100% support for finding the cure. The problem is, the general population does not know scientist are able to cure this disease. More advertising needs to be done. This will bring in many private donations. Spread the WORD for a cure not the DISEASE. People are emotionally dying inside and many medical problems are caused by herpes virus's. No need to suffer when a cure is possible. Curing one HSV-1 will lead to curing HSV-2 and etc.
I have cold sores as 90% of the population does. I don't want to leave the house if I get a cold sore. I use to get them like 1 to 2 times a month for a long time. People would say nasty jokes to me and make me feel ashamed. They hurt and itch so bad. I could easily spread the virus to others and who knows, myself...if you know what I mean. I could have HSV-2 and not even know. I've only had a few sex partners, but who knows who they've been with. If I was diagnosed with genital herpes, I swear I would rather be dead. I'm not lying. I'm sure many can relate to that. Since I was a teenager, I've always been interested in the field of gynecology. So, studying STI's has always been an interest of mine. Plus, I personally know several people who have genital herpes. Most of them are single and lonely. They have no desire to live and enjoy social events. Seriously, we need to cure this virus. It's done it's damage, now we need to take control. I'm not a doctor. I'm an educated individual who has much understanding of the medical field.
For anyone interested, we've begun the process to incorporate and start a nonprofit foundation called Herpes Cure Foundation. I won't post a link, since they don't allow advertising, but you can find us online. The site is very, very basic right now, so bear with us. In these early stages we are working with an attorney to incorporate as well as file for tax exemption status with the IRS so that we can allow donations. Additionally, we are working with a web developer to get the site fully functional within, hopefully, the next eight weeks.
We want the site to be a place where both sufferers can come for information regarding current research, donate to help fund research targeted directly at HSV1 and 2, as well as a place for researchers to apply for grants and also connect with those who may be performing similar studies.
What we need right now is help to get the word out. We need to find people who want to be actively involved in this cause. We CAN find a cure, we just have to organize and ensure those orgs/researchers dedicated to an effective treatment are funded well.

How can I become actively involved? I'm designing a pamphlet at this time. Paying for it out of my own pocket. Have a plan to pass these pamplets out to several organizations. Hopefully, here in the next few weeks I will be able to make visits to multiple organizations and spread the word a cure is near with adequate funding. Convincing society that this disease is being linked to other health problems is the key. Plus, too many people suffer from the emotional pain of having the disease.
It's Tuesday and Bryan Cullen from Duke hasn't contacted me yet about using existing cures for herpes that cannot be patented. I was told that he would only be back in his office for a few days before leaving on an overseas trip so this does not mean Duke is not interested in curing you of herpes with a cure that can't be profitable to Duke. Although I seriously doubt Duke is interested in cures that are not profitable, I will continue to give Bryan the benefit of the doubt and wait to hear from him.
Below is a copy of the email I sent to him and to Robin a disgruntled doctor who post here and testified I sent her the email along with several others who have contacted me from here. I'm still getting several contacts a day from here wanting to be cured of herpes. I'm not curing anyone of herpes anymore, I am only training others to cure themselves or to cure others. If Duke will not cure herpes I will see that people are FORCED to learn to cure themselves and others. Before you get all intimidated about being involved with cures, DON'T. Cures are a peace of cake. The only thing making health and healing complicated and difficult is science's search for patents and profits. A 12 year old can learn to cure disease like herpes in only a day. The only reason anyone is intimidated by the thought of cures is because of the endless pure science fiction propaganda that has crippled man and society.

I know this communication may seem strange but I have been blogging on a CNN blog at (website removed for posting here to avoid moderation) and your name comes up quite often about your work in researching cures for herpes. Mostly they are asking people to donate to your research.
I have been arguing that Duke would not be interested in cures that could not be patented. Your assistant Christine thought that was an incorrect assumption which I hope is the case. My scientific research has lead to a cure for herpes, however there is nothing to sell or patent. It would please me greatly if you could prove my assumption incorrect and take a little time to respectfully investigate my claims.
My research has shown that a person with nail fungus (which you should already be aware is extremely common in people diagnosed with herpes) can also cure or at least eliminate herpes outbreaks with the prescription medicine Lamisil tablets used to cure nail fungus. I'm still waiting to hear of a case where Lamisil doesn't stop the OBs.
I personally do not use Lamisil to cure people of herpes, I use the immune system with complete consistency. In a nutshell I use the same immune response that powers the immune response behind every immune response seen in your blind studies. I can take a sugar pill and make it completely consistent at curing herpes because as you know the sugar pill has no healing qualities, it is the individual own system generating the relief in your blind studies. True Cures doesn't stimulate relief, it stimulates an immune response that eliminates the pathogens causing the OBs which makes it a cure instead of relief.
I have Bcc'd a few people from the Blog here who have contacted me so they are aware that I am no longer assuming Duke isn't interested in cures that can't be patented. I didn't do it to imply anything about you or your work but to imply that I am willing to do my part to ensure that Duke is aware of True Cures for herpes and to make you aware. I have been very hard on Duke and the University of Florida on the blog and I would be grateful to be proven wrong about my assumptions. I have contacted many universities and research centers which is why I reached the negative conclusion that universities are not interested in cures that cannot be patented. I will also post a copy of this email on the blog.
I hope to learn we are all on the same page and more interested in a cure than money so I can retract my statements and give you the cure you have been searching for.

It is one thing to post a short post with a link to a petition over and over again that you have no financial ties to. Quite another to post a million links to your commercial site(s). True Cures. I guess it depends on how you look at things. If you think it is right and fair to constantly post comments over and over begging for donations for more and more failing research said to be supposedly looking for a cure, which if you look at the grants and the studies your donation go for, they do not read at all that they are looking for a cure but for me to post over and over about existing cures that cannot be patented and therefore ignored by universities and the medical industry as out of line, you truly are a sick and twisted individual. What does science fiction call your disease?
I repost my comments because my comments are the truth and what many of the people reading this forum are looking for. I must repost them because you and the other medical industry employees here keep bumping my comments back by reposting the same garbage that has been posted for 75 years and over and over and over here with no cures to show for it. Nothing but continual begging for money like pan handlers but WORSE, pan handlers are people that often become aware of how screwed up the world is and they just put on the breaks and get out. You have your work cut out for you John. As long as CNN is against censorship your beloved herpes industry is coming to an end. Lamisil will see to that. I've seen people become emotionally distraught over this diagnosis. When people are saying, "I would rather have cancer, than herpes," that is a problem. Gential herpes is more of an emotional battle! For the ones who suffer of multiple outbreaks are obviously in physical pain as well as emotional pain. The problem with natural cures is, there's no clear evidence! It simply lacks the animal and human clinical trials and all the other miscellaneous requirements. I'm not saying natural cures are bogus! Plus the initial reason scientist decided to find a cure is because how serious ocular herpes can be. This then openned the doors to hopefully curing genital herpes aka HSV2. Not to forget the mention genital herpes increases your risk significantly of being infected by HIV. It's a very interesting topic and the only way there will ever be a cure is if we donate and support the research. Talking about it, dreaming about it, and thinking about will not get us anywhere. Acting will make the world of a difference. Spread the word and get people to donate. I've made my first step. I'm currently designing a pamphlet that describes herpes and what scientists are doing to cure the virus. Plus, I've already donated. Next, I will be giving speeches at the university I graduated from. I plan to visit large organizations discussing the new research on curing herpes and what they can do to support the cure.
I think many need to be thanking the corneal specialist for believing the virus can be killed. Dr. Bloom was very pessimistic when this idea was approached to him. Now, he knows how to kill the virus in the laboratoy.There's a whole team of them that deserve a "thank you" for their hard efforts. This will unravel the chain for many other cures.
There is not one reader here who cannot kill the virus in a laboratory B. I'm going to shed a little light on your agenda here by starting with the obvious.
One of my claims that has NEVER been disputed is the fact that no one ever actually sees a herpes virus. Your doctor has never seen it, the lab technicians that analyze samples of blood or swabs of sores never ever see a virus and as far as you and I are aware B, Bloom has never seen a real herpes virus.
The fact that herpes is more often than not a fungus it's natural to assume that Bloom is looking at fungus if he is looking at anything and to suggest Bloom cannot kill any pathogen in a laboratory is utterly deceptive and manipulative. There is no pathogen that cannot be killed with common house hold products when the products are applied directly to the pathogen.
The trick is, how do you get the product to the pathogen with an amount strong enough to kill the pathogen. Well that isn't the MOST IMPORTANT trick, the most important trick for Bloom to learn is how does he get the poison product to the ONE pathogen they are trying to cure without killing another hundred other types of pathogens and destroying medicine in one small mistake.
The pathogen causing herpes is just as inferior as any pathogen. BLOOMS PROBLEM IS HOW TO KILL HERPES WITHOUT KILLING HPV, HCV, HIV, CMT, EBV, Lyme and every other pathogen known to man.
B, keep asking people to support Bloom so he can keep pulling the wool over people eyes or take a new stance and tell Bloom to let the cat out of the bag and cure herpes even if it cures a dozen other pathogens at the same time.
If Bloom doesn't have a conscious contact Cullen from Duke and tell him the same thing. No one is going to be cured by medicine if they do not force medicine to cure them. Don't ask them to cure you don't donate to their wicked cause until YOU KNOW THE TRUTH.
Anyone can kill a pathogen in a laboratory B. Please don't treat people here as if they are idiots. Please do not use science fiction to try to speak over people. I will call you on, no matter how good or bad your intentions are. I will be watching you.
NOW, John, did you see how easy it was for me to dispute B and Blooms claims? Lamisil will not only kill herpes in a lab but in a person as well. Very easy to dispute. I didn't call B any names or try to get B banned. I simply laid out the facts for people to process for themselves.

Scientifically speaking the fact that Lamisil is being ignored by the medical industry personal here like John, Jay, Melody and B is pretty solid proof that your medical cure for herpes is already here, just wrapped up in the wrong package.
You see John would be attacking this claim of Lamisil curing herpes made by me if John had a leg to stand on. See John knows that too many people with herpes have yellow nail fungus but that isn't it, John also knows that too few people with yellow nail fungus will test negative for herpes.
John cannot prove or disprove that Lamisil will cure herpes but he certainly has no leg to stand on when it comes to proving that herpes and nail fungus go hand and hand and foot and foot.
If you have herpes it is likely only a matter of time before you have nail fungus. John knows this, so does B and so does anyone else posting information trying to direct you away from my comments.
It is not my intentions for you people to use lamisil to cure herpes, it is my intentions to teach you all how to cure herpes without using any poison such as lamisil even if lamisil really doesn't have any ill side effects.
I shared the lamisil information so you all know that medicine and universities are not being straight with you on what is and what isn't herpes and whether of not it can or cannot be cured with a drug.

TRUE CURES DOES NOT CURE
There are many people out there claiming that they can cure Herpes. I am going to tell you about one of these so called healers named David Flowers aka True Cures. Back in March 2009, 14 people met with David Flowers in New York. We were all suffering with the herpes virus.
Mr. Flowers told us that he could cure us in just two weeks. Some of us flew in from different states and one person even cam from Canada. He also put us on the no carb diet. He claimed that we all suffered from fungus and parasites and when the fungus and parasites were eliminated then we will be okay. We paid for his hotel, his meals and gave him money and most of us gave him money individually.
One month later some of us were still getting outbreaks and we complained to Mr. Flowers. He told us that was impossible and cursed us out. He complained that we were only saying that we had herpes to avoid giving him more money. Now, he had originally said to us that we don't need to pay him but that quickly changed as soon as we complained that we were not cured. He then told us that the cure date was no longer 2 weeks but 2 years.

I've signed it. I'm having everyone at my work sign it. I've added it to my pamphlets. The pamphlets include information about the herpes virus, medical problems related to herpes, simple statistics, how people can become active, and what Dr. Bloom and Dr. Cullen research is focused on. I gave up on herpes-coldsores.com. I don't believe this website cares for a cure. It's only worried about how people cope with a diagnosis of any type of herpes, but at the same time pretends as if they do support a cure. I recieve an email everytime I reply to a post. I keep breaking one of the 100 rules they have. Don't waste your time on that website. If you want change, you're better off donating directly to Dr. Bloom and Dr. Cullen. Whatever. My fiance has eight business plans wrote out for non-profit organizations. I cannot believe how you people talk down people who get banned for speaking out about herpes. If the the president of the Herpes Cure Coalition->LivingLiff77 was banned it could be just as likely they were banned for exposing facts that damage the industry of herpes.
The garbage jay/john/blackngold all one and the same are posting about me is coming from someone who has banned me for curing their forum members of herpes. Jay/John banned not only me from the CureZone but almost a dozen other CureZone members who met and are cured.
It would be very foolish to discredit someone for being banned. If blackngold a.k.a. john a.k.a. jay could they would ban me from here. Instead all they can do is tell you that I get banned all the time and tell you I am a con and a scam even though there is not one person out of thousands who have seen me who is claiming that I have scammed or conned them.
Now, blackngold is a female from New York City who saw me in person under her hubpage handle positiveenergies. She followed me from her CureZone forum to hubpages and then met me under the pretense that she had herpes. She doesn't have herpes never had it. She saw me so she can have an idea of how she will attack the only consistent cure for herpes that consequently uses no products potentially putting the CureZone out of business. John/jay makes her living off of her sponsors on the CureZone.

You can always tell when it is her because she post nothing but attacks and is prone to being a poet. She ALWAYS calls me a scam though there is no one asking for any money back from me.

The more and more I read about this virus, I'm realizing it's serving a purpose to be destroyed. It's the #1 cause of blindness in developed countries. The US is a developed country. Once you lose your vision, it's almost impossible to get it back. Several eyes drops daily and who knows how many surgeries later, you might be able to see again. For 15 years I worked strictly on a donation bases until you/blackngold/positiveenergies buddy buddied up to me to suggest I charge a fee and take away my guarantee to conform to business standards. However it was you/blackngold/positiveenergies that immediately jumped on my set fee as a scam even though I maintained the complete unconditional guarantee the whole 9 months I had a fee.
Until you talked me into setting up a fee no one could call me a con, a scam or a fraud. No you can't see my point, the revenue is a drop in the bucket compared to the money donated to universities. Donations are free. No one gets anything from their donations. It's like having a machine to produce your own money but you don't even have to pay for the paper, the ink or the machine to print it. All you have to do is go on a blog and hold out your hand with some Propaganda B fear tactics and the money pours in.

I will attack Propaganda B's claims when she says herpes can cause blindness. There is no proof that herpes causes sores so there certainly is no proof that herpes causes blindness. The eyes are very well protected with a very strong immunity. Eyes can destroy any pathogen, even herpes. Every single person in the world has gotten the pathogen responsible for herpes in their eye a million times and today you will get a dozen different very harmful pathogens in your eyes and hundreds of less harmful pathogens in your eyes without any consequences.
That's right I said it. Everyone has come in contact with herpes. It is most likely we come in contact with the pathogen every single day of our lives because it is that common. The fact is, a person with a fully functioning True Cures immune system will kill the pathogen on contact and never be the wiser. AGAIN, you will come into contact with hundreds of diseases causing pathogens today and your immune system will cure them as in kill them the same way you could kill every last herpes pathogen in your body if you had the herpes pathogen.

Oh, yes they are receiving donations in the form of GRANTS and millions of other private investors and they are not looking for a cure they are looking for the next greatest treatment which only has to be slightly better than Valtrex so they can sell the patent and move onto the next greatest treatment that only has to be slightly better than their last one AND THE BEAUTY OF IT IS, it only has to be slightly better on paper. It doesn't have to offer patients any more relief, it only has to have a better fabricated research claims to be considered slightly better.
There is only ONE person known to work for free when it comes to ending the suffering of herpes and that is me. I would love for you or anyone to prove me wrong because anyone working for free without hopes of patenting products would join me and end the suffering.

I see a hidden agenda in all your comments and still feel a need to discuss them. First of all, as far as you, I, your doctors, your lab workers know herpes isn't a virus at all so quite trying to convince people their nail fungus isn't related to their obs. More people get relief from their OB's from over the counter fungicides than they do ANY antiviral. And the only drug know to cure herpes is prescription strength Lamisil tablets and low and behold it cures the nail fungus as well as herpes and it it cures both pretty much every single time. So Propaganda B, what says you? How is it fungicides offer more cures and relief for herpes if herpes is a virus? Why is it no one ever sees a herpes virus other than science fiction photos on the internet. Your doctor doesn't see them, your researchers do not see them, your lab techs who say some one test positive for them do not see them so how is you are willing to pump up the fear propaganda here when there simply IS NO EVIDENCE THAT HERPES IS A VIRUS OR EVEN MORE HARMFUL THAN A RASH?
Another issue with the FEAR PROPAGANDA is this, here in the mid west where I live and every where else that doesn't PLAY UP THE HERPES FEAR PROPAGANDA people really don't get too worked up at all about herpes. Inland US doctors who will not diagnose someone with herpes unless they have sores and a positive blood test. They won't diagnose someone with herpes based on a positive blood test. Most inland doctors won't diagnose their patients with herpes unless they test positive in a swab or culture test even if they test positive on a blood test.
Propaganda B, there is no evidence that herpes is virus, there is no evidence that herpes causes blindness and THERE CERTAINLY IS NO EVIDENCE THAT HERPES CAUSES SORES. If science and medicine was interested, they could find ENDLESS evidence that individual outbreaks are LOADED WITH FUNGUS!

You will never learn that the sole called "HERPES" virus though almost 50% of Americans are thought to have "HERPES" has never been seen by anyone you or I know. No one has seen it because it doesn't exist. It is a fungus which is why Lamisil prescription tablets will cure it ever time.
