Gupta treats baby for head injury in HaitiEditor’s note: CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Sanjay Gupta is covering the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti. On Thursday, he responded to an emergency request to examine a 15-day old baby girl who needed medical attention for a head injury. (Watch) As he walked through the streets of Port-au-Prince, he saw that very few resources were available. When Gupta asked the Haitian father what happened to his daughter, a translator said, “The house collapsed and the mother died.” Gupta checked the baby’s vital signs and concluded that she did not have a skull fracture, but did have a head laceration and needed antibiotics. Just wanted to send my prayers for the doctors and Dr. Gupta and their crews our best! God is with you through your services and compassion. I know you will be of GREAT HELP to them all.
Dr. Sanjay Gupta, you are my HERO of 2010. Thank you for your concern and care for this baby. My prayers are with you and everyone in Haiti.
Dr. Gupta, you were so tender and caring when examining this precious baby. I think we were all on pins and needles when viewing the video hoping the baby was going to be OK . I'm sure the father was in tears and so grateful, especially after losing his wife. God be with you, your staff, and the people of Haiti.
My deepest admiration to Dr Gupta and all the citizens of the world helping the victims of this tragedy. I'm speechless and overcome with pain as I watch the images and pictures.
Oh my goodness.!!
Watching Dr. Gupta with that gorgeous baby has left my mouth hanging open
Thank YOU Dr. G for your kindness to that baby and her family
Dear Dr. Gupta: I have been watching your reporting from Haiti and am humbled by your compassion. You have an amazing gift both medically but also as a man. I will pray for you, for heaven to provide you with strength and resources and for that same heaven to also heal you when you return. I can see the toll this is taking on you. God bless. Dr.Gupta, I just saw the footage on CNN of you taking care of the 15-day old baby. Thank You. What you and others like you do is so important and commendable.
who is taking care this baby? does she has any family or she need to be adopted? need to know/will like to help
Maribel: Baby Girl was carried to the clinic by her uncle. Her father was too distraught to leave the home because Baby Girl's mother was killed in the quake.
Dr Gupta,
We know there are many heroes now in Hatti, but you are our hero for staying with and helping the people in the hospital last night after all the other medical personnel were told to leave. We believe you are a perfect example of what a doctor should be - one who cares for people despite the risks. The world is a better place because of doctors like you.! May God bless your work, you and your family.

From the bottom of my heart Dr. Gupta thank you! I've been to Haiti 22 times on short term mission trips. What I am seeing from my home in Illinois is breaking my heart.
Just wondering (hoping, praying) how this baby is doing. Is she getting food and medicine? I know the tragedy is so large, yet I look at this one tiny life and I can't help but wonder if she is going to make it without mother's milk and tender care. I hope we can hear an update sometime on the news.
AMAZING! You are more than a hero you are an angel of grace and mercy. When you took this baby girl into your arms I saw you melt with compassion. I hope you write a book about your experience in Hatti. I am sure it will be quite moving and not sensationalized by the media.
I want to commend Sanjay Gupta MD for sticking with his patients at the makeshift hospital when the Belgium doctors walked away. You take an oath as a doctor to do no harm. he stuck with that oath. Also thank you for the great job he did with the 15 day old baby. Glad she's ok. Today I am so proud that he fixed up the girl with the brain surgery. I think he is awesome! Thank you for the wonderful job CNN is doing on the ground reporting about Haiti. They need all the help they can get and our prayers too. As a nurse I can see true compassion and heart with Sanjay
I have always watched CNN and have admired Dr. Sanjay Gupta, but his efforts in Haiti have given me a whole new appreciation for his ability, knowledge, compassion, and attitude! I have watched CNN every day and night since the earthquake and on every occasion, Dr. Gupta is a true professional and has been a true lifesaver for the people in Haiti. I really admire the fact that he said he is a doctor first and a journalist/correspondent second. I would like to see him receive a very high-level humanitarian award when he returns to the United States. We as Americans, should be very proud of him and his seemingly superhuman efforts! All of the CNN correspondents deserve the highest praise, but Dr. Sanjay Gupta's lifesaving care was critical to the people of Haiti. God bless you all as you continue to serve and put others first!
Dear Dr.Gupta,
I'm 12, and I live in NYC. I've wanted to be a doctor when I grow up since i was 6, and your segment on CNN, about the 15 moth old baby with the head injury really moved me. It made me want to become a doctor like you even more. I really admire some of your work in Haiti these past few days. You are one of my heroes for 2010. My prayers are with you, and the people of Haiti.

Kudos to Dr. Gupta for stepping in and saving lives in Haiti. Listening to your conscience and heart, sharing your skills and gifts to save others, without expecting anything in return- altruism at its best. You are blessed.
To his critics who claim he is blurring the lines of journalism by "participating" in the story – every correspondent, to some extent, participates in the event they are reporting on, and often changes its course – reporters who get injured in war zones, who are swarmed around when passerbys see a camera, changing the tone and direction of the experience, diffusing a situation when police and/or rioters change their behaviors when the camera is on them, getting voluntary confessions out of the accused on a courthouse step-instead of just observing and reporting.
Dr. Gupta is a doctor first and foremost, and it would be unethical and cruel of him to stand there and report on victims, left outside of a hospital, with no medical care, to slowly die. Even a non-doctor would try to ease their suffering.
People say that he is blurring the lines? What are they thinking? People are dying over there! Forget the lines! How many of those who say this would want him to stand over them and "report" any serious injury, and not stoop down and help? Prayers for Haiti, and for us all, if this is what hearts are coming to in America.
THE DESPERATE NEED FOR PARENTS FOR THOUSANDS OF NEWLY ORPHANED CHILDREN IS HUGE...I'M ONLY ONE, BUT I WOULD LOVE TO ADOPT TWO CHILDREN AND GIVE THEM A NEW CHANCE AT A HEALTHY LIFE.
Dr. Gupta-I hope you are aware of "compassion fatigue", similiar to burnout but more likely to occur because of ongoing exposure to a disaster/trauma-I am not sure how any of the newspeople and medical personnel/rescuers can escape experiencing this-it is imperative that people take adequate breaks, and do the basics of sleeping, eating, etc...You are doing amazing work, my prayers are with all of you, and I hope you will remember to focus on whatever things bring you inner strength and peace as you continue to serve others-
I saw this on CNN and I was impressed. As a health reporter myself, I think Dr. Gupta has did us prous in his work. Keep it.
Best Regards
Shemala

I have been trying to find a way to get to Haiti, and offer my services, however, everyone wants licensed Doctors and nurses. I understand that but the reality is that first aid instructors can work along side Doctors too. We do not have all the skills that a doctor or nurse have, but we understand some medical, and have the same kind of compassion for others. I have been trained in EMS for many many years, and it is something that I eat, sleep and breathe, in other words, it never leaves my mind. When there are wounds to assess, impaled objects, head injuries, trauma shock, broken bones, crush injuries, etc, etc, etc. I have had experience in all of these and more. I have skills in emergency child birth, and more experience hands on saving lives. My heart goes out to the people of Haiti, whom I am willing to assist, as I have a heart filled with compassion for all of God's children.
I can also assist in aid distrubution, or obtaining aid for the medical personel or the teams in distributing aid. We are all God's children, and need to help the people of Haiti. I need someone to let me know where they need me, and I would only be honoured to fly in, and assist whereever I can.....just give me a chance.
I WAS WONDERING IS IT OK IF I CAN ADOPT THAT BABY AFTER ALL OF THE LOVE AND CARE YOU HAVE FOR HER ... WOULD IT BE BETTER OFF FOR HER TO START A NEW LIFE SOME WHERE BETTER AND THAT SHE HAVE A BETTER ADVANTAGE FOR SCHOOL AND OTHER IMPORTANCE IN HER LIFE WHEN SHE GETS OLDER
The closest thing to remember months down the goal of decreasing negative effects right from the attic for those
