5 studies you may have missedHere's a roundup of five medical studies published this week that might give you new insights into your health, mind and body. Remember, correlation is not causation – so if a study finds a connection between two things, it doesn't mean that one causes the other. Keep your phone out of your pocket – your sperm will thank you Since guys don’t usually carry handbags, they tend to keep mobile phones in their pants pockets. A recent study from the University of Exeter suggests this may not be a great idea. That cell phone could actually have a negative effect on your sperm quality. The review looked at findings from 10 studies, that included almost 1,500 samples of semen. To evaluate the mens’ sperm quality, the scientists measured viability (the ratio of sperm that were alive), motility (the ability of sperm to move) and concentration (the number of sperm per unit of semen). Compared to a control group, the percentage of sperm showing normal movement dropped by 8% among men who pocketed mobile phones. This group's sperm's ability to survive also decreased in about 9% of the samples. The scientists write that the individual risk for sperm damage depends on how long a man keeps his phone in his pants and how much electromagnetic radiation the phone emits. Read more from TIME Eating too many hamburgers may increase your breast cancer risk Past research has shown that eating a lot of red meat increases the risk of bowel cancer. Now Harvard researchers say eating red meat in early adulthood also increases a woman's risk of breast cancer. The scientists analyzed data from 88,803 premenopausal women. During 20 years of follow-up, the team looked at the diets of those who developed breast cancer. The result: higher consumption of red meat was associated with a 22% increased risk of breast cancer overall. Women who ate more poultry, fish, eggs, legumes and nuts had a lower risk for breast cancer. Read more from BBC The 'trust and cuddle-hormone' has another important purpose Oxytocin is often referred to as the “trust and cuddle hormone” because of its role in maternal nurturing and friendship. Researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, now say that oxytocin is also essential for healthy muscle maintenance and repair. Their recent study showed that injecting oxytocin under the skin helped animals' muscles heal better. Oxytocin is the first “anti-aging” molecule approved by the Food and Drug Administration for clinical use. That’s why the study presents oxytocin as a future treatment target for age-related muscle wasting. Read more from UC Berkeley Bad-breath bacteria does more than turn off your date Scientists from the University of Pennsylvania have found the bacteria that cause gum disease also create an imbalance in your immune system. Their recent study revealed that the periodontal bacterium Porphyromonas gingivalis disarms the immune system, leading to periodontitis, with inflammation and bone loss. The gum germs block the immune cells' killing ability and cause inflammation. The dead cells become nutrients that the bacteria feed off of. “The result is a vicious cycle that exacerbates periodontitis," the researchers write. The team’s discoveries open up new targets for periodontitis treatment. Read more from University of Pennsylvania Heart disease can hurt your mental health A healthy mind needs a healthy body. According to a new study, keeping the heart healthy is also a great way to keep your brain fit. The research examined 17,761 individuals with normal mental function and then re-evaluated them after four years. The scientists found that the risk for cognitive impairment is greater for people with poor cardiovascular health. A deficit in learning, memory and verbal skills developed in 4.6% of people with the worst heart health and in only 2.6% of those with the most healthy hearts. The study doesn’t explain the mechanisms that may have led to the findings. However, the study’s author, Evan L. Thacker, said “undetected subclinical strokes could not be ruled out.” To learn more visit Health.com |

Well i always have my phone on my belt clip
And? So what?
SO, a phone next to your brain when its transmitting is OK? We will have a generation of brain abnormalities coming up just watch, and we will expect medicine to fix them. Kinda like microwaves in the kitchen at breast height.
If you're keeping your phone on a belt clip, odds are there are no near term prospects for your sperm anyway.
So whats the big deal I hadn't had sex or made any sperm deposits in 46 years.
Right coast – You win the internet today!
Your belt clip. Now what area is that next to?? I will wait while you figure that one out......
belt clip or pocket would hardly seem to make much difference .... perhaps then this cell phone era was nothing more than a population control device ....
Nerd Alert!
Nerds wear a phone on their hip. Almost as nerdy as a fanny pack. Back pocket or front nerd boy. Who cares about your sperm....less is better unless you're trying to have children. I'm going to invent a jock strap mobile phone carrier that works as a contraceptive.
The study made no claims on distance between phone and sperm. They actually specifically said that heat is likely not a factor and I don't see why the cell signal would be significantly weaker six inches versus a foot or even many feet. The conclusion to keep phones out of your pocket is completely made up.
My poor spermies, they can't get out of their bases anyway (yup, I am snipped)
And the winner for most irrelevant and useless comment goes to....
I also heard men should stay away from the TV remote or those little swimmers won't have a chance to exhibit their viability, motility or concentration.
Soooooo, we are saying that if I keep my phone in my pocket, it's like a free vasectomy? Great! I have 2 phones. I'll just keep phones in BOTH my pockets!
The article says the quality of the sperm will be degraded, not destroyed. This means your kids will turn out like [insert name of most hated politician or pop star]
Think I will go back to the Drudge for real news
you gotta wonder about some researcher who woke up one day and said "let's see what the statistical relationship is between cell phones in your pocket and the quality of sperm." And more so the funder who read that grant proposal and thought it was a fantastic idea! Someone else might have cured cancer but they decided to explore the relationship to sperm quality and cell phones instead.
What's the matter? Sour grapes because YOU didn't think of it first?
I guess it depends on what you want, kids or only the sex. It gives new meaning to the old advice to "keep it in your pants".
Is this a new form of birth control?
Gays don't have to worry about this.
They've plenty of other things to consider already. Then again, HIV doesn't seem to be one of them.
Jussayin;
When we did the testing, Motorola was our biggest customer. It was one of several. Nokia may have been the only cell company that we dd not make antennas for at the time. They later almost destroyed our company when they came out with the first digital phones. All of our customers were using analog.
Is that a cell phone in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me?
jussayin:
It' been a lot of years. Nokia may have ben one of our customers. It may have been Ericsson that came out with digital. Let me just pass on a couple things. I have never owned a cell phone. It is not because of the radiation. When I worked at Centurian in 98, we often talked about how we could find ways to track people and hack their conversations etc...
Damb, Now I have to buy another cell phone to kill both sides. lol
Five totally BS articles!
2 seconds in a microwave oven kills all things including smartphones themselves. Are smaller doses of microwaves any less dangerous stretched over time?
Yes. Exponentially.
GOOD TO KNOW, BUT AFTER THE PROSTATE CANCER SURGERY I GUESS I COULD USE MY IPHONE AS A BIKE SEAT WITHOUT TOO MANY PROBLEMS
I guess those sperm selfies don't like cell phones?
Good, now I can put my plutonium in both my pockets since this stupid cellphone will kill me.
Vehicular recalculation typically results in extreme digestive vortex misalignment counter to neoplastic conditional aline abduction in conjunctiva melon permeate localizations.
Right on
I have three kids . . . I need a cell phone in EVERY pocket.
Forget the knife – it'd take a chainsaw to cut through the stupidity of the comments here. Speaking of which, I take most so-called scientific studies with a huge grain of salt; as so many are proven wrong a little further down the road. lol @ the "experts."
Who would have ever thought that cell phones could be used to help prevent conception?
Just buy slightly larger jeans, enough to compensate for the tombstone you're jamming into it. Then it won't constrict as much. It isn't rocket science.
Lawl
wow ! thats strange.
no wonder when u do that u feel like something getting bad
I don't believe the study about cell phones & pockets. Sounds like they had their conclusion before they began the research and set out to prove it. That's reverse scientific method. Obviously if there was a real risk that cell phones could damage sperm quality then this would set off alarm bells about the other dangers of cell phones. In the 1980s some people had the same fears about microwaves. But there's no real evidence to support any of it.
Obviously Hillary has kept her cell phone somewhere near her brain.
What about on the train when 30 people around you are using cell phones at the same time???
and it doesn't hurt the other cells in your body?
Does this mean I have to wear a fanny pack?
You mean your jay-jay pack?
This is not necessarily a scientific/medical cause and effect.
I suspect you may find the same correlation between low sperm count and guys who pop the collar on their polo shirts. It's a metro thing.
So... if I keep a cellphone on my stomach at night, will it kill the fat cells?

Hell no. I would wanna have babies.
Are yuh sure with this ur story??????
Slow sperm...now we know what causes Republicanism.
Anything at all that reduces pregnancies would be tremendously worthwhile. Please, men, by all means, wear two cell phones. Trust me, nobody cares at all about your little swimmers except that they are better off dead. Too many people in this world today.
My girlfriend says it still taste the same..
Luck going out the gate. I saw my sperm under a microscope when I was 17yrs. old.
Some were doing some street racing and some were slackers, carrying lounge chairs and tiny beer bottles.
USA should fund sending cell phones, not guns to other nations.
THeres no way the mucho macho male is going to do without his phone anymore. The quick and easy fix is to take some meds and smoke some dope, just to make sure
Right on lol
According to the Surgeon General no matter what you eat, drink, breathe. sleep with or now carry in your pocket, you will catch something.
I learned to ignore these 'studies' that surface almost daily when they came out with the 'study' that found school girl pregnancies resulted from their addiction to motherhood.
Thanks for your information as regarding the conditions for maintaining stable health. To thoes that have ears let them hear. Pleas, I suggest that more tips should be giving on a weekly basis to improve lifes and health status in the society at large. Thanks once again.
These statisticians/researchers are like blinds, estimating the shape of the elephant. One says elephant is like a pole, other says,no no, it's like rope...
These radiations have negative effects on whole human body, in heart, in eyes, in kidney, in brain,..., and similarly in sperms. Why they are interested always in partial study ? Nobody will leave their cell phones even after reading this reoort. So better is to tell the less harmful way of manipulating it from the total risk not only about sperms.
Is that a phone in your pocket or are you just less interested in impregnating me?
Most of Somali People carry the cell phone on the shirt left pocket or other pockets in the trouser.. i'm sure that will adversely effect......
