Judge sides with homeless veterans

A federal judge on Friday refused a government request to dismiss a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union against the Veteran’s Administration, on behalf of chronically homeless veterans.

The suit accuses the VA of failing to build permanent housing on a large property controlled by the VA in West Los Angeles. Los Angeles has the largest number of homeless veterans – about 8,000 – of any city in the country. Many require mental health care and other support services, and ACLU attorneys say those programs are basically inaccessible unless permanent housing is built nearby.

The case is Gregory Valentini et al v. Eric Shinseki, et al
