‘Down low’ TV comments raise HIV controversy

A gay rights group accuses comedian D.L. Hughley and “The View” co-host Sherri Shepherd of perpetuating “dangerous myths" about African American gay and bisexual men.

In a June 22 episode, Hughley and the hosts of the daytime ABC show were discussing an FDA rule that bans gay men from donating blood because of HIV. During the discussion, Hughley said, “When you look at the prevalence of HIV in the African-American community, it's primarily young women who are getting it from men who are on the down low.”

Shepherd described that the “down low is black men who've been going out. They are having sex with men and they're not telling their girlfriends or their wives that they're gay..." and added that it's "very prevalent." Watch the video here

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, the Black AIDS Institute and the National Black Justice Coalition said the two were “blaming African American gay and bisexual men for increased HIV rates among straight African American women.”  They published a full page advertisement in Variety magazine this week urging ABC and "The View" to make an on-air correction.  The groups commended "The View" for tackling tough issues, but said it's important to provide accurate information.

ABC responded with this statement to CNN: “ On June 22, during a discussion about blood donation and the transmission of HIV/AIDS, a guest moderator on the show expressed his interpretation of data about one way the virus can be transmitted.  The topic of HIV/AIDS has been raised many times over the show’s 13 years, with many voices and opinions contributing to a conversation that we expect to continue as long as The View is on the air.”

The down low has been a widely reported phenomenon in the media and remains a controversial issue.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that the most common methods of transmission for black women living with HIV/AIDS is high-risk heterosexual contact and injection drug use.  The agency states: "The phenomenon of men on the down low has gained much attention in recent years; however, there are no data to confirm or refute publicized accounts of HIV risk behavior associated with these men."

While African Americans represent about 12 percent of the U.S. population, they make up nearly half of the 1.1 million HIV/AIDS cases.

The gay community is dissolutioned. They dont want to take responsibility for their reckless actions. What are the statistics of black IV drug use. Has to be very low as most blacks that are on drugs are mostly smoking crack. If they are claiming that the data does not support DL and Sherri's opinion, how can it support theirs as many downlow men are just that, downlow and dont report these things, duh. We know in the black community because people talk and then you find out either from a out of the closet gay man, that another man he has been with is on the downlow, but no one puts this on a form, you just know and that's why Sherri said its prevalent and it is! I had a cousin who has slept with men, but he wont tell the women he dates, they find out on their own by word of mouth and he is HIV positive! I have told a friend of mine years ago when he tried to date her and he had the nerve to try and date another friend of another family member and the girl was told too. 2 other guys I know in the black community were discovered with men in hotel rooms, etc and they were married, now divorced. Word of mouth is the data on the street that eventually roost out the truth, because the downlows cant hide forever, they eventually slip up. So these organizations are in denial and the black community knows better, dont care how offended they are. They need to prove themselves also. What is the high risk heterosexual sex?, you mean its more high risk than gay sex?, yeah right!

At the end of the day , its called accountability andresponsibility , we can use platforms such as this to really place the blame on some individual , group or casue. When in reality , know what you are getting into when you get into it, take it to the next level before becoming intimate, SEX is SEX ...... This disease has no particular as society and idiots try to place one for it. If the ladies are bitter , be bitter and if the fella's continue to deceitful and dumb.. But everyone understand your position in all you do .

I find it quite interesting how a minority like blacks cannot accept another minority (gays) as their own and see the same struggles. Maybe its because of the religious appeal in the black community. There shouldn't be this issue of being ashamed in this country about being gay, its 2010 last I checked not the 1950s. Being openly gay should be a common thing as well as gay marriage and all communities should recognize that and accept it. As far as this whole down low thing, well why should it be on the down low? Also understandably we have become more PC as a society, but not being able to give blood because of simply having a gay sex encounter? I mean cant we check for HIV or other diseases in the blood? What about straight men and women who have used needles or have unprotected sex? I dont see them getting denied to give blood. If research shows that you can test blood for disease in gay blood or straight blood, there should be no issue in giving blood for people who are either straight or gay. I also think that homophobia in the black community should not be tolerated, blacks are as much of a minority as gays, see them as equals and the rest of the country will start seeing each others as equals.

Your comment- "I find it quite interesting how a minority like blacks cannot accept another minority (gays) as their own and see the same struggles." is just ridiculous.

Most research and support funding is for gay white men. Why aren't gay white men demanding equity in research or even support for HIV+ black women? Because they do not care.

White people have the option of ignoring race and pretending that sexual preference is akin to the experience of racial discrimination in this society. It is not.

Race and sexuality are two totally different experiences. Black people are not obligated by their skin color to be anymore accepting of homosexuality than anyone else.

@ lance corporal- the gay community ought to stop being such cowards and call themselves out, admit what you are and dont blame others for you not coming out. The nerve to blame society, stay single then! You still have a choice. Dont bring women into the mix to cover up your lies and cowardice. Sure its prevalent also in the white community with all of the gay sex scandals of preachers, poiliticians, etc who were married and were called out of the closet by someone else. Compare the HIV rates of gay men to lesbian women, not promoting lesbianism, but men with the disease spreads the disease faster that women that dont have sex with men. Leave women out of the equation, go in a corner to yourselves, cowards!

Gays will never be accepted like its normal because its not the way God made it. Gays will always have to "make" people accept them with fear not with truth. People may not say anything, but deep down, they will say its wrong but are harrassed like with whats going on with this latest The View thing. That's why the ballot box speaks. How can you strong arm the marriage institution that was created by God and say a contradiction like gay and marriage in the same sentence. This world is sodom and gomarrah and will have to answer to God that created it very soon. The fact that there is death is even more confirmation that there is a God, as the evils of this world prove that there is a God as the Bible speaks of the evils and its consequences that have proven true.

And you judge because of why? And don't quote me from the bible please because I look to the New Testament for my beliefs. And since God has created all things from A to Z, I believe he also created those individuals you call "gay". Do you wear a sign stating you are a heterosexual? If not, why do you want to label those who aren't? Best to take care of your house and let others tend to theirs.

Can atheist prove where death came from? Hebrew 9:27And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: What is the explanantion that man lived for hundreds of years over the course of 2000 years and the life span declined, why? what was the reason? If its evolution, wouldnt that make evolution weak in itself. Its sin thats has decreased our life span as much as unhealthy diet and lack of exercise. What is the atheist and evolutionist rationale for the words of the Bible coming true? Read for yourself, dont take anyone else word for it. We may not want the 10 commandments displayed, but our laws are based on them and the laws and boundaries in our own hearts are based on them- we have a natural affinity to dislike violations of the 10 commandments, think about it, really. Who put our instincts there compared to any other being?

So we all know how these black women are getting AIDS but we can't talk about it? That seems like a regressive suppression of information that could enable these women to take steps to prevent the spread of AIDS. I think the gay community has shot itself in the foot over this one (in suppressing the truth so that they can gain support for AIDS funding and spin their sexual preferences and behavior as harmless). I think an appropriate caption for a news story should begin with "Gay agenda suppresses truth and countless die as a result"......

Does David speak for the homosexual community and can we conclude that gay men are "stuck" in their emotional development? Thus the roots of their disease are not enough attention from their fathers, leading to an inappropriate obsession with their own sex as they try over and over again to get something they didn't get in childhood? Sounds like psychological therapy is needed...... Furthermore, the last thing orphaned children need is to be fostered and adopted by those in such a condition.....

Unfortunately, as an HIV/AIDS educator, there has been a correlation between African American mean being sent to prison, engaging in sexual activity and contracting HIV. Upon their release they don't inform their wives, partners, or girlfriends of thier activity out of shame, I suppose. This then perpetuates it in the African American community.

Well here we go again, another negative story on the Black Man, the 70's saw us with high unemployment, the 80's saw us having the First Black in some higher office, company, TV shows, but we were doing CRACK and Drive by's, the 90's showed us as Gangsta's, now the 2000's are showing us we all have HIV/Aids!! When will the media STOP showing negative images of the Black Man? I think Black america needs to wake up and realize, White america is trying to KILL us OFF in any way they can!!! 12% of the total US population and we have the highest HIV rates?? BS! I want to see studies done on the White and Hispanic populations, I want to see stories like this written on CNN that show just how high the HIVAids rates for the white and latin man. Where I come from, i personally know more white and latins with HIV than Blacks. I know 3 blacks, you hear 3 blacks with HIV and I know a total of 75 white and hispanic.

These White men are married and they make daily trips to adult bookstores, parks and bathhouses, i see NO blacks there and do you know why? Because stories like this make white and latinos not desire to be with black men, black men who prefer the company of white or latino men!

Read the "men seeking men" section of Craigslist, you see all ad's for men wanting other men, but black men need not reply.

Stories like this are really making dating life hard for Black men in the Gay community, eveyone thinks we have Aids and that's not true!

If you test POSITIVE on an HIV test, you better get a second or third test done to confirm! Certain prescribed meds, colds, flu, etc., can make a test come back positive and you're really NOT! There are FALSE POSITIVE test out there, they just don't want to tell you.

If you're going to speak on this subject and bascially kill off blacks for procreation, then tell the whole side of the story, tell the side where many people have been told they have this disease and really didn't, how they took those awful meds for HIV and didn't need them, but when they found out the truth, their bodies were already damanged from the meds!

If you have a positive HIV antibody test (whether it is a false positive or not), it will be confirmed with a confirmatory test called the Western Blot. Only when the Western Blot comes back positive will you be considered HIV positive. And only then will you be prescribed antiretroviral medication. Also, your viral load will be monitored, along with whether the strain of HIV you have is drug-resistant. Therefore, they will confirm several times that you do in fact have the virus. No one is trying to harm anyone by prescribing antiretrovirals to those who don't really have the virus. You will only be given the medication if you really it.

You can tell GLAAD is becoming politically relevant because they're starting to nitpik every thing said about gays. Give me a break! Where I live there are a lot of "down low" men who are infecting other men and women. My views haven't changed–I respect the person, not what you do in the bedroom and frankly I'm becoming tired of hearing about the lifestyle. This both scares me and saddens me. How can a minority be a majority of the HIV/AIDS cases? Not only that, but when you couple this with the high rate of single black mothers, its really really sad. You can preach education all you want, but you have to realize that if DL Hughley knows about this in his celebrity status, don't you think that the fairly closed-off black community knows about the situation? The word is out, but no one seems to care. So, util the black community steps up and decides to change, then issues like these will continue.

What is truly amazing is that, whether protected or unprotected, people condone the activity. Think about it. If you knew someone was infected, would you have sex with them, whether protected or unprotected? If no, then why would you have sex with someone who you weren't 100% sure was not infected?

We have come a long way and society has changed concerning our sexual freedoms. Question is was it for the better.

The only thing I disagree with is DL associating race with a type of sexual behavior. Men from every race, nationality, etc. are on the "down-low". That's because society treats homosexuality like it's an illness. I remember hearing a gay man discuss coming out of the closet to his black relatives and he made an excellent point. He stated a black man could be a drug dealer, a robber or a kidnapper and his family would stand beside him in court. However if that same man announced he was gay, half of his family would reject him. Why??? Homosexuality is a fact of life, we need to accept people for who they are. It is not for us to judge.

I don't see why everyone gets their panties in a bunch over something like the whole "down low" comments. As a gay man myself, I see black men all time who are married/dating women and want to be w/men, but the African-American community does not accept people being gay as easily as other races/religions etc.... As far a gay men not being able to donate blood; why are gay men different than anyone else? HIV isn't a gay disease as we all know now. It is 2010 isn't it? If being gay were more acceptable these so called "down low" men and other men who are afraid to be who they are wouldn't be spreading HIV the way they do because they are afraid to tell their partner the truth. They shouldn't be married or dating women to begin with. This kind of behavior is way to prevalent and whatever comments are made need to be made. Maybe, just maybe someday everyone can be happy w/who they are w/out hurting others in the process.

I am a gay black man. If y'all are going to put gay/bisexual black men on the hot seat, so to speak, then we need to subject straight black women to the SAME level of scrutiny. There are straight black women who are drug addicts, recovering drug addicts, prostitutes and former prostitutes (drug addiction and the sex trade go hand in hand with female addicts). Keep in mind that there are black people (both male and female) who are using illegal drugs intravenously (and "sharing" dirty needles), as we speak. Yes, this is still happening in 2010. Black women in the aforementioned categories, whatever their sexual orientation, are at extremely high risk for HIV/AIDS infection. There are also straight black women who are sexually promiscuous: some (remember I said SOME) straight black women will sex a man they picked up at "da club" WITHOUT PROTECTION in a heartbeat if they like how he looks and he says the right things. If you're pulling men up out of the club right and left, sooner or later the odds are that you're going to pull something that's going to change your life forever. And whose fault is it when you pull the wrong thing and didn't use protection? Is it ALL his fault, when you could have insisted that he USE A CONDOM or better yet you could have STAYED OUT OF THE CLUB ENTIRELY? Let's put it ALL out there. I'm just saying.

Why not people be responsible for their actions? If you get HIV from someone else, then you bear 50% of the responsibility. You should have used protection or demanded that your partner use protection. Another issue if you are married, but unprotected sex is the reason why people get HIV. Not gay men.

What I don't understand is what DL Hughley and Sherry are accused of? It is the DL men in the African American community who are passing HIV to their female partners. I don't care how many times a woman has anal sex with a man, there's no way she's going to pass HIV to a man that way. It will be the man who passes HIV to the female by anal sex. The chance of passing HIV female to male vaginally is minuscule. It's certainly not lesbians who are passing HIV among each other so the only way a female is going to get HIV is from an infected male partner. A female can only catch HIV from a male partner who contracted HIV from male to male sex or from IV drugs and blacks don't have the highest IV drug use rates. These gay groups need to get off their HIGH horses and touch down to reality because as usual they're living in a fantasy world.

After hearing everyone’s opinion on sex be it gay/lesbian, or hetero, what it comes down is that people are contracting HIV/AIDS from sex be it with drugs, or alcohol. While people are contacting HIV/AIDS because of sex lets be wise as in who we sleep with. Men who sleep with other men have 1 in 10 chance of contracting HIV/AIDs while women who sleep with other women have like 1 and .00001 something like that. I am not making up the numbers look it up first by going to the CDC. Now of course if you have a bisexual male sleeping with a straight woman the numbers are going changed just like if you have a bi-female sleeping with a lesbian or a straight male.
So lets talk about why African American women are contacting HIV/AIDS, well the GLAAD and the Black AIDS organization suggest it is through the use of intravenous drugs and promiscuity, while others organizations suggests that it is the number of African American men who are on the down low. My observation is that both assessments are correct with some faults. First one does not have be promiscuous to contact HIV/AIDS that one straight African American woman could have sex with that one dude who happens to be bisexual or closeted and now she has HIV/AIDS and if you are sharing needles and having wreck less/dangerous sex it is going to happen. Personally think the arguments that were presented on both sides were to shame and humiliate African American men and women. First the assumption that African American women are overly sexed and promiscuous and the other is the wreckless, fail to commit behavior of African American males. The bottom line African American women are contacting HIV/AIDs at a higher rate than other ethnicities instead of bickering and throwing blame it would be wise for everyone to learn more about the transmition of HIV/AIDs and educate themselves from credible sources instead of television.

Please, people,.......stop. Have we become so liberal in this country that we can't be honest?! No one is attacking gay men here. But bisexual men spread AIDS faster than any other group. And no one is saying that REAL straight men can't catch AIDS. Sure, a man that says he's straight and really is can pass plenty of diseases. But you hardly hear of straight men catching AIDS from women. Men on the D-L, of all colors, are disgusting to me and I'm a black male. Only a sick person would put others at risk that way. They're ruining some great sisters too.

"the most common methods of transmission for black women living with HIV/AIDS is high-risk heterosexual contact ...."

Read between the lines, people. This only means black women are mostly catching AIDS from men(heterosexual contact). Why is there no AIDS epidemic in the lesbian community?!?! Anatomically, women are more susceptible to catching any STD. Sisters, take better care of yourselves and make wiser choices in men. That brother that's too pretty or that cat that's too hard may be suspect.

"....there are no data to confirm or refute publicized accounts of HIV risk behavior associated with these men"

This only means the CDC knows something but they won't admit either way. Drug companies profit from our ignorance.

Well they spoke the truth I don't care what the gay coalitions say black or white downlow men are spreading hiv to women and especially african american women..Some men are in prison having sex with other men & when they come home there having sex with there female partners it's a code of silence in black male community so if DL & Sherry can shed some light on the truth then maybe women & men can be more cautious & protect ourselves of this deadly disease...Who cares what any coaltions say they spoke the truth!!

As a college student I have thoroughly researched this issue. NO not all instances of HIV/AIDS, and other forms of std's/sti's are spread through needle injections but sorry, the truth hurts, take into account EVERYTHING...most likely a good 70% of spread std's/sti's spread in the black community to black women is through DL MEN...

    1. take into account that most of the prisons are overcrowded and filled with BLACK MEN. out of these numbers almost half the men in prison have raped someone, or been raped in prison this is a FACT research it...and we know there are no forms of "protection" there... these men either have some form of rape, or consensual sex that occurs while they are in prison, and as a FACT most of the percentage of men raping other inmates in jail are BLACK MEN. and as another fact these black MEN go home to their families, girlfriends and wives NEVER MENTIONING that they have either raped another man, been raped, or had consensual HOMOSEXUAL sex with another man...this is a proven fact...RESEARCH IT... is that not a DL MAN?

    2. There are several men and WOMEN in the black community that have HIV/AIDS and other forms of STDs/STIs and are UNKNOWINGLY spreading it...becase one of the number 1 issues in the black community is our overall lack of GETTING TESTED.

    3. There are those who have HIV/AIDS from needle sharing but this is a SMALL PERCENTAGE...another fact RESEARCH IT...and have CHILDREN, who have the sad risk of contracting the disease while they are growing in the womb, or going through CHILDBIRTH...that is another FACT RESEARCH IT!

    4. As a young woman who has been attending college in ATLANTA, i personally have seen, witnessed and know of SEVERAL men who are on the DL and have NOT told their partners, whether regular citizens or celebrities...some of you idiots that are trying to state percentages do realize you DO NOT have to tell the clinic, or those testing you HOW you contracted the disease...it does not always get COUNTED....most doctors ask, but not all record it, if you are bisexual or on the DL, they will tell you the best thing to do is to inform your partner, but obviously the term DL was not created because these men were openly bisexual/ gay

    4. there are parties that are held called BAREBACKING PARTIES in the gay community where MEN have UNPROTECTED SEX WITH OTHER MEN WHO HAVE HIV/AIDS, PURPOSELY TRYING TO CONTRACT THE DISEASE...RESEARCH THAT! AND A LOT OF THESE PARTICIPANTS ARE NOT OPENLY GAY.

    5. another FACT...HIV can be in the bloodstream, and be doormant (no symptoms, etc) for up to 8 YEARS IN SEVERAL CASES AND SOMEONE NOT KNOW IT...(TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE BLACK COMMUNITY, WHERE GETTING TESTED IS TABOO).

    6. THERE ARE SEVERAL BLACK MEN THAT IDENTIFY THEM SELVES AS STRAIGHT BUT HAVE DONE PORN IN THE PAST, AND NOT TOLD THEIR PRESENT GFs, WIVES, ETC. that goes for ALL RACES...most scenes in the porn industry are UNPROTECTED SEXUAL SCENES... and several black men catch HIV THIS WAY ALSO, some companies make it mandatory to be tested for hiv/aids, but that is a small amount... as a woman with a cousin who is one of the biggest porn stars in the adult industry (heterosexual) anytime you see a porn star who has not been in films lately and then they suddenly start making them months later 99% of the time THEY HAVE CAUGHT AN STD/STI AND HAD TO TAKE TIME OFF TO GET RID OF IT, IF IT COULD BE CURED... THAT IS ANOTHER FACT FOR THE Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation ORGANIZATION SINCE THEY WANT TO BE SO TECHNICAL...

I CAN GO ON...ALL OF THESE ARE PROVEN FACTS, DO YOUR RESEARCH...DL HUGHLEY AND SHERRI WERE RIGHT, THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG AT ALL WITH THEIR STATEMENTS...

@APRIL SINCE U WANT TO BE TECHNICAL SODOMIZING IS THE TECHNICAL TERM... DOCTORS, LAWYERS, PEOPLE SAY SODOMIZE ALL OF THE TIME....YOU DEFINITELY SHOW THAT IGNORANCE STILL EXISTS...

    http://www.thefreedictionary.com/sodomize

D.L. Hughley and Sherri Shepherd are absolutely right. I was married unknowingly to a DL man (who is now HIV+) and I know several other women in the same predicament. The black community needs to wake up and address this important issue. http://www.straightuptruth.com.

Drives me crazy that a major television network can describe incorrect statements as "interpretation" and "opinion". Hughley clearly spread misinformation about a very serious issue of medical science. That's not opinion, it's ignorance. If he had stated that syphillis can be spread via contact with toilet seats or that drinking tap water is a leading cause of smallpox, ABC would have issued a statement correcting him, no?

Guess I can't rely on ABC news now, if this is the network's stance on misinformation.

The article incorrectly states 1.1 million Americans are living with HIV. In August 2008 the CDC announced revised estimates of HIV prevalence and arrived at the conclusion that prevalence was 40% higher than previously indicated. This means roughly 1.6 million americans are infected with HIV today.

when has the CDC ever visited the black community to ask people about their sexual practices? This is some bullshit and Sherry and Hughley know of what they speak because they live in the black community and they can see for themselves what's going on. The CDC doesn't check black men coming out of prison to see if they've got HIV. The CDC isn't visiting crack houses. anybody with more than two brain cells knows that there's only two primary ways to ensure you will get the AIDS and that's through tainted needles and high risk sex (butt phuckin). HIV/AIDS aint fallin' out the sky. People are getting it because they are doing stuff that isn't right nor clean aka living on the downlow. Ta hell wit all them gay black men. Take yo azzes over to the white woman....ahh but she won't have you! Not when she can have some hetero baller! GTFO

First people express their personal views and that's one thing but to express medical data as fact without a study to back it up is another!! There has been a medical study and the results was that men on the DL were much more likely to protect themselves for fear of being found out! The book "On the down low" bought the whole DL thing to media attention. In the book the author express that HIV rates in women was caused by down low men. But when asked where was the medical evidence? He could not provide any! HIV comes from having unprotected sex. Just look at Maury all the paternity shows all the heterosexual unprotected sex!

The heterosexual'a ability to classify this as a gay disease is precisely why heterosexuals make up 80% of HIV/AIDS cases worldwide.

Heterosexuals have stigmatized gay people SO drastically, that they'd rather contract and die of HIV/AIDS than deal with the truth.

They'd rather contract and die of HIV/AIDS than have someone think they may be gay.

And most of you seem too stupid to even SEE that. Even as you spread HIV to each other at MUCH, MUCH higher rates than do gay citizens.

    Thank god I'm gay.

Some folks love prison and will quickly do any stupid thing to get back there. I was proud of CNN for exposing the obvious, in case anyone didn't already realize the pattern of aids and gay sex by that particular minority. Look at the money that we send to the mother country each year to combat its hopeless aids epedemic. Facts speak for themselves and should be adhered to instead of annoying politcal correctness that just won't seem to go away at any cost.

I guess it's also politically correct to pretend that butt sex doesn't drastically increase chances of contracting HIV. This obviously makes any argument a futile waste of time. When did this upside-down, nonsense become accepted in the first place. Butt sex and needle drugs actually spread HIV; not fishing or going to church.

Why are they getting so mad? They ARE the reason so many women are gettin infected with aids. When's the last time you heard a woman catching aids from another woman. It's these gay ass men sleeping with other men, and then coming home to their "girlfriend/wife". I have no problem with anyone being gay/bisexual, do you! But damn, be single and use protection.

AIDS was never a heterosexual disease in America & Europe & it will never be. I have had unprotected heterosexual sex with my girlfriends & not one came out to have AIDS because I dont have AIDS. I also have sex with men on the downlow without telling my female partners. When I have sex with men I always use condoms with them at all times & I play the active role when it comes to anal sex meaning I do all the penatrating & I wont allow myself to be penetrated in return. Yes,I would consider myself to be on the DL. I dont identify with the gay community at all & dont want to either. I made the right & unyielding decision never to come out the closet & that's a choice I make for myself. However,I do support the message of safer sex but not the coming out of the closet message for men to tell their women if they on the DL or bisexual.

OMG you are so right! I see this all the time in where I work. Minority women are taught this in the home/environment which is why there are so many unwed mothers with multiple children living in the home b/c their environment taught them not to use protection and that is is bad to abort a fetus or put a child up for adoption regardless of their circumstances. There was a 16 years old kid who had no home her mom and her were living in a shelter and her mom told her that she needed to bring this child into this world with no home to raise. She didn't even tell her to put the child up for an adoption because that was not an option. It sickens me that so many people believe that there are no options and they should accept the circumstances they have found themselves in be it their fault or not. People educate yourselves learn about your choices and the consequences of your choices before you make some of these life changing decisions.
