Parenting style may affect teen drinking

Trying to prevent your teen from binge drinking? A new study suggests you might want to consider your parenting style.

"Parents who are what we call authoritative, which is to say they monitor kids closely and show a lot of warmth and support, they are less likely to have teens who participate in heavy drinking," explains sociologist and study author Stephen Bahr of Brigham Young University in Utah.

All McNuggets not created equal

All McDonald’s   nuggets are not created equal.

U.S. McNuggets not only contain more calories and fat than their British counterparts, but also chemicals not found across the Atlantic.

CNN investigated the differences after receiving a  blog comment asking about them.

Study: Americans eat too much salt

Nine out of 10 Americans eat too much salt every day, and many of them get more than twice the recommended daily amount, according to a new report from the CDC.

Researchers surveyed nearly 5,000 U.S. adults and found that they consumed a daily average of almost 3,500 milligrams of sodium. Current dietary guidelines say that Americans should get less than 2,300 milligrams of sodium each day.  However a government advisory panel recently urged officials to decrease the recommended daily sodium limit to 1,500 milligrams for all Americans.  Even people who steer clear of salty foods may not be avoiding excessive sodium. The report notes that many foods with a high sodium count, like breads, cookies and crackers, may not taste salty.

NY cop preps for race day with Dr. Sanjay Gupta

Back in January, CNN introduced the Fit Nation Triathlon Challenge: Six lucky CNN viewers were chosen to train and  race the Nautica New York City Triathlon with Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta. They've been swimming, biking, and running for months to get ready for the race. Now with only a few weeks left before the big day, it's time to check in with some of the "6-pack." As triathlon nears, a competitor celebrates life

Since January, Dr. Sanjay Gupta and the producers of CNN Medical News have been working with  six incredible people who have taken the Fit Nation Challenge. That challenge was to participate with Dr. Sanjay Gupta  in the Nautica New York Triathlon July 18. That's just a few weeks away. They've been the last six months swimming, biking, and running. Kids may need 2 H1N1 doses again this year

Children over 6 months and under 9 years old who haven't received an H1N1 vaccine yet can expect to get two doses of seasonal flu vaccine this fall, if the Centers for Disease Control adopts recommendations from its vaccine advisory committee.

The CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices voted to add this recommendation to the usual seasonal flu rules at a regularly scheduled meeting in Atlanta on Thursday.
